canon ir c3100 turns itself off

customer states the machine shuts itself off at night. when they return in the morning they have to turn the main switch off and then on again to get it to fire up. there are no error codes and the machine seems to function properly for a c3100! has anyone encountered an issue like this before? please help. thanx

The Daily Timer Settings-allow the user to set the time that the machine is automatically turned OFF or put into sleep mode for each day of the week. To reactivate the machine, press the control panel power switch. (See the 'Reference Guide' specific to your device to see if this function will be used to turn off device or put it into sleep mode) Note:
    - The Daily Timer settings are in the range from Sunday to Saturday and from 00:00 to 23:59 in one-minute increments.
    - The default setting is blank.
To set up the Daily Timer:
    1. Hit Additional Functions > Timer Settings > Daily Timer Settings.
    2. Select the day of the week, and enter the time with the numeric keys. Repeat for each day, as needed. Press 'OK'.
    * Enter the time in 24 hour notation as four digits without a space.
    * If you do not want to specify a time, press Clear.
    3. Press 'Done'.

To configure the Energy Saver Settings on the copier:
    1. Hit [Additional Functions] -> [Common Settings] -> (down arrow) -> [Energy Saver Mode].
    2. Select [-10%], [-25%], [-50%] or [None], and press [OK].
    * The approximate energy saving figures for each mode, and the approximate delay times from power ON to Ready to Print status are listed below:
    -10%: 10% less power (approximately 50 seconds)
    -25%: 25% less power (approximately 90 seconds)
    -50%: 50% less power (approximately 180 seconds)
None: 2% less power (approximately 0 seconds)
** The figures in parentheses ( ) show the approximate time it takes for the machine to return to ready to print status.
    3. Press [Done]. The specified mode is set, and the display returns to the Basic Features screen.

    Sleep Mode
In the morning the machine will not come out of sleep mode. The machine must be powered OFF/ON to start working.

Occurs when the machine goes in to Sleep mode 3 too fast. The timing to execute sleep mode is adjustable.

To resolve this symptom, perform the following adjustment in service mode level 2:

    COPIER>OPTION>BODY>WUEN-LIV
The range for this adjustment is from 15 seconds to 600 seconds. The default value is 15. Enter 180 and press OK. The 180 value will allow the machine to go into sleep mode slowly. This will keep the sleep mode from locking up and forcing a power OFF/ON condition.
**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**

Something else to look at. After you modified energy consumption settings, and or, timer settings. If they still have to reboot the machine to recover its self from sleep mode. Check and verify the integrity of the connection of the DDI-S serial cable that connects the Reader Unit and Printer Unit. If the connection is good the cable its self might be faulty. The part number for the cable is FH2-7036-000.
