    [Misc] IR 1630 drum reset

We are Sharp dealers but work on other brands from time to time. I got a call from a business that has has a canon IR 1630 with the message " Waste toner full". Can we just empty waste toner and reset counter or do we have to replace drum? If so can anyone give a brief prociedure as to how to do that? Thanks.

    Best thing to do.

Order the drum unit they can't be emptied.

The item number for the GPR-10 drum unit is 7815A004AB. The estimated Yield / Life is 24,000 pages based on 6% coverage on the original.

Note: The drum unit is a supply item and must be ordered as a sales item.

Actually, the waste toner can be emptied from the drum. Most of the time, this will cause the message to go away. (There is no reset). Sometimes the waste toner is packed in and will continue to make the machine think it needs to be emptied. (Can tell this by a loud clicking sound as the machine makes a copy).

Remove the drum/devo unit and pop the plastic cap on the drum tank on the left after detaching it from the developer unit (two spring loaded releases). Dump the waste toner out, replace the cap and reattach to the devo unit. Put unit back in machine and see what it does.

Part number as given by Screwtape is correct.

      *Edit*

One other note on this is if you see a tan color on the drum (usually along the edge), the blue coating has worn away there and the drum should be replaced. They will sometimes trigger a toner end condition and the drum is ok for awhile longer, but I would not bet the house on it.

As I said the best thing to do is to replace the drum unit.

These little machine are a bitch to work on at times.

Ha ha. Had not seen one for maybe 3 years. And guess what , had to fit a fuser to one on Friday.

Makes a change I guess from my usual these days , which is constant IRAC50XX's.

How do you like servicing the IR Advance C5051 series?

The IR Advance C5051 is great,...... As long as it is a 45/51 speed machine , has an external finisher and is not on Uniflow :P

The faster machines with the beefed up feeder and external finisher is a great machine. Quality is , as a whole , very impressive.

Unfortunately I have many many 5030's with internal finishers. The A1 finisher is a little bit of a weak spot for me. As a rule I cant see the advantage over a 3580.

The 5030 engine is good though , great colour quality , fine to work on.

Have seen quite a few issues as we have quite a few of these machines. And all are about a year old , so were in the field immediately on release.
