If you have installed the driver only, then you have half of the solution. I always advise that people use the installer version of the software, not just the .inf files. The installer will also load another bit of software that allows that conversation between the copier and the driver to take place. I can't recall the name of that function, but I believe that is your issue. Download the installer version of PCL5, and that should resolve your issue..."Once a King, always a King, but once a Knight is enough!"

On the older drivers you had to run the setup.exe to add the printer and the service (netspot?) that makes "get device status" work. If you just did the "add new printer" wizard and browsed to the .inf the service didn't get installed.
If you have the driver CD look for the setup.exe or download the setup.exe program here: iR2800
You may have another issue because if you manually added the ID's it still should have worked. Try the setup program and let us know how it goes.
EDIT: MrFixit faster on the reply again, sorry for the redundant infoComment

The service that must be running is the Canon DIAS, which if I remember correctly is the Device Information Assist Service.
Anywho, check your services to see if it is running.
The absence of this service, though, will not prevent you from printing to mailboxes, it will only prevent you from seeing their names.
The service is absolutely required if you are using the print accounting feature of the driver.
Also, if you are printing using Point-and-Print on a server, the service only needs to be running on the server, and not on the workstations.
Finally, if the service refuses to work, I think that port 161 (SNMP) must not be blocked, as it is on some networks. I'll look it up if need be, but I'm pretty sure that's the port.“I think you should treat good friends like a fine wine. That’s why I keep mine locked up in the basement.” - Tim HawkinsComment

Where to find DIAS, and how to enable.
Browse the driver folder for the misc folder.
Double click the Set up icon and it will install the service.Comment
