[Error Code] Canon PC740 error code E2 10 help !

When the machine is powered up error code 'E2' is displayed, then it changes to '10' and the machine makes a grinding noise.

This machine has been a great home copier for a long time and would like to keep it that way.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

hi steve..this error code related to the lens drive or the lens home position sensor malfunction
check the lens drive and see if there is any obstacles
    clean or replace the sensor......

      Hi Montana,

Give me a few hints - i.e. how do I access the lens drive and clean the sensor. I'm pretty good with a screw driver I just need to know where to do the surgery.

      Thanks,

      Steve

The pulley at the back left corner of the optics may have broken. Common on that model. Disassembling that machine is not something that can be done over the computer. You may need a tech. Look thru the glass at left rear and see if the cable is loose.

Hi Brian, No the cable is not loose. Any other ideas?

There are a few things that could cause that code, one of them being a solenoid in the rear of machine dragging along the frame and not switching the drive from the lens to the scanner. That was hard enough to put into words on a Sunday night. That disassembly is at best difficult if you're a tech that hasn't worked on that model. For an end user I wouldn't even go there. Thank you for your input. Maybe I will resort to my scanner to do my copying. Time to retire 'old faithful'?

              Steve

PS Maybe I will attempt to take it apart. If all fails then I will be no further in the hole.
