[Misc] Canon iR 2200 Scan to SMB??

I don't really work on printers more than setting up the network and scan settings.

With that in mind, I have a client that recently acquired a Canon iR 2200. I got the unit online, pings, etc. I've looked around and it seems like it has the ability to scan to SMB. I don't see this anywhere on the printer or the Remote UI.

    I have seen these instructions:

    1. Create a new folder at the workstation and share folder (OK)
    2. Go to copier (OK)
    3. Press additional functions (OK)
    4. Press Address Book Settings (Not there...)
    5. Press register address
    6. Press register new address
    7. Press file
    8. Press protocol: window (SMB)
    9. Press Browse
    etc.
    etc.

The Remote UI: has an Address Button but the drop down only has Fax and Group.

Does this printer need a software upgrade or a different type of network card to support SMB? What would be needed? I'd be happy to pay someone to help me and get this going.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

Sorry to tell you this, but you can't push scan with this machine.

It has to be an iR2200i; the "i" designation give the machine "Universal Send", which is required for push scanning.

Universal Send cannot be added to this model; it has be born that way at the factory.

Well I can scan to a Box but from what I have it seems like you have to log into the box to get the data? is their an application that I can use on a desktop to access the box? and it seems like I can scan to an actual physical machine if I attached it to the printer? I haven't tried that yet and it would be a janky setup if I had to do that.

        You're scanning to a Maibox.

To get the data, you need to install an IE plugin, known as "JBIG Viewer". Calling that app clunky would be an understatement - it's pretty awful.

You'd be best off to do pull scanning. You'll need to download Network ScanGear from Canon, and scan into an app like Acrobat (not Reader), Irfanview, or any other app that can do TWAIN scanning.

This machine will actually make some very clean scans (along with the rest of the model line, for that matter!)

So basically they have to put the files into the feeder, go to their machine and then hit scan...

Let me ask you all this. What would you recommend for as a solution for a company that regularly scans 300 page files?

I'm thinking standalone network scanner that can scan to smb or ftp. They have a couple konica solutions upstairs but scanning these large files tie up the printers.

Thanks for all the quick responses!

If they do a high volume of scanning, a DR model scanner would be a better fix for the job, as the capacity is just around 30 sheets at a time for the feeder on the 2200...

I totally agree with my associates - you need a dedicated scanner with that kind of volume.

A Dr scanner or a copier that supports it. Looks for " universal send " feature in the canon imagerunner line. Or AKA Usend .
