    Canon IR110 license?

We're looking at receiving (possibly) a Canon IR110 as a trade in. Haven't seen it but current owner says that it needs about $15k for a license. Not sure what that means. Wouldn't all the software be preloaded and come with the machine? This of course would affect the value.

    Maybe I'm misunderstanding something.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

They'd be trading it in to us for two 80ppm machines and leasing them from us. We usually throw in a trade-in value for their old equipment, in this case the IR110. They informed us of the license issue. I've never heard of such a thing unless that specific machine is different.

EOS runs the ir110 and the SPC is the print controller (like a Fiery).
I assume they key is for the Sun Print Controller, EOS doesn't need a key as far as I know. They either "lost" the paperwork that had the key or that isn't the original SPC. They might try giving Canon a call if they registered the software.

Does the machine not work if it doesn't have the key code? I would think that they could look it up by serial number.

Well, the machine will come to ready but you won't be able to use it since technically it is just a printer. You can use the temp key (canon-1027) which will work for 6 days, or just use it as a copier by adding the scanner.

Usually what happens is the HDD (with the key) on the SPC fails and they threw away the paper with the shiny license key. They have the disks and can reload the software but won't have the key. The 150's have rack mounted SPC's with their own cabinet which is nice to keep the CD's and the paperwork with the license keys. I think the 110's SPC just had a pouch on the side.

Still, I think I'd look real hard or call Canon about a $15,000 license key.

Yeah seriously, that is some big dough for a license. So the license is just for the software on the server that attaches to the IR110 and the server is necessary to print to it.

                Yep, that sums it up.

I'd actually open up the SPC and look inside the cover for the license, or the left cover on the 110 where all the wires run, or in the back of the 110, near or inside the MIP.....

Before you throw away $15k though check this out

Just an obvious newbie mistake, hopefully he will catch onto how to ask properly ...

You should me sure, copier maybe has wrong HDD or needs firmware to be installed.
In Europe with 15.000 $,you can buy 2 IR110 with low meter counter.
