    Canon Imagerunner

    Good morning all,

We're looking at a print defect from a Canon IR2800 Copier this morning and trying to develop a line of attack.

Letter size copies look fine, but legal size develop an odd compressed area just outside of the length of a regular letter size image. In the last 1.5" of the image, it's been compressed a 1/4" into a bit of a smear. Words such as "STORE" get jammed into "ST<smear>E" in too short a space to have been laid on the page correctly.

    See attached. Any good ideas?

    TIA,

are you using the DADF? Do you get the same issue when copying from the glass?

This defect shows up with print jobs as well as copies. So it's not a scanner issue.

I would replace the laser scanner assembly if your machine is mechanicaly in good shape

The machine's in a fairly dirty environment. It's been cleaned reasonbly well, and I can't visually spot any rollers worn to the point of slipping on a page. Did you have a particular thought in mind when your asking if the units in mechanically good condition?

We'd wondered if something was slipping on the page as it pulled through the fuser, but can't locate anything particularly suspect. Are these units known for any particular assembly wearing? It has almost 720,000 pages on it.

well obviously your machine is probably not in good shape if the environment is dirty and the unit has 700K on the meter. I would pull your transport out and take a look it along with the transfer roller which is the sponge type roller under the drum. It should sping freely and probably has a build up of dirt and toner in the bushings. Clean and lube what you can and prossibly replace the roller and busings if you have them.

Defo pull the bed and clean and lube transfer roller bearings. I had the same problem on a 3300 (same box) and that's what it was. Sticking transfer roller acts like a brake.

Let us both know if that's what it was.

              Cheers

                Thanks guys,

Just FWIW, it never shifts, it always develops the exact same defect in the exact same spot. If it was a sticking roller, i'd expect it to develop the same defect in random locations. Strange that it only occurs on legal paper, and never on letter.

Thanks for the reply though, we'll take a look.

your legal paper is still being pushed as it hits that roller.

Check/clean or replace the Transfer Charging Roller/& Static Eliminator

It almost looks as if the blur happens as the paper leaves the bite of the reg rollers and is being driven by the fuser. I'd try replacing the LFR and bushings. And the upper film if it has a lot of miles on it.
