    scanning with IRC3220

We have a printer that normally does scanning to a network share. Lately, there were some changes with the samba share. I wasn't the one who originally set the printer scanning before, and now it doesn't seem to work.

I checked the Address Book. The \\<SHARE_FOLDER\path\ is still there. I tried creating a new one, but it was asking for a server username/password although it doesn't have one.

Where can i start troubleshooting? Thanks. TIA.

What changes were made to the samba share?

Can you browse to the share via SMB? Even if there isn't a password, it will still need a username to authenticate with.

The path should be \\<ip address or host name>\<share name>
Some cases I've had to add the domain in the path \\<domain>\<host>\<share name>

Thanks for the reply. I know what you mean. The path is correct (sorry for not writing it in detail here), and there's nothing wrong with Samba. I tried some valid usernames but it's still asking for authentication details.

Well I made a workaround though. Since the previous setting was still in the Address book, I made sure the folder where it dumps the scans to will be the same -- \\<ip>\<sharename>\CanonScans.

I guess my question now would be how to solve the username/passwd problem. If not, I'll try creating another share which should really ask for one.

Sorry, forgot to answer your 1st question. We changed some folder structure, so the original CanonScans was renamed to CANONSCANS. We didn't know it should be case sensitive.

When setting up scanning it is always best to do it EXACTLY as reflected on the target PC/server. To verify the target as the correct permissions \\ to the directory (from a different PC) and try to save a file to the directory (from a username that does not have rights to that PC/directory). That will help you determine if it has the proper permissions.

Not sure with this machine because I so rarely see one with U-send but a lot of machines require a username to be entered just for fun.

Also, keep checking the error log. That ALWAYS helps me figure out what's going on. If it can't communicate with the directory you know the issue is with the share path. If you're getting an authentication error you know its some kind of username/password issue.
