SDL is authenticating locally from the copiers HDD.
SSO is authenticating from the Active Directory Server on your network via a security agent.
I'm sure it takes longer communicating with the Active Directory Server, which I assume is encrypted communication, than it does communicating with the local HDD.
Have you tried the newer hybrid SSO (SSO-H)? It doesn't use the security agent and is probably faster.
