[Error Code] Canon IR3100C Error code E000020-0493 When cleaning

    Hi,
I get Error E000020-0493 when trying to clean inside main unit.
    Should I be very worried?
    It's printing, but very stripey.

Is there anything I can do to improve the quality? Other than getting a new machine of course - I'm aware of the opinions of the 3100 most of you hold!
    Regards,
    Penelope

hi is it just the black that is stripey or is it all colours-the error could relate to your drum out of life or one of the colour devs.

Hi, Well, it's a large area of red I'm concerned about. Which would involve magenta, yellow and possibly a bit of the others.

BUT the error comes up when I try to do a clean. I press 'start' and the clock goes round for a bit and then I get the 'turn off and on again' and the error code. (Which I have done half a dozen times)

Bear in mind I have no tech skills so don't know the jargon. I'm afraid finding the 'Toner supply clutch' is beyond me. However, I am quite practical and willing to have a go.
        Regards, Penelope

hi,is it colour bands from left to right coming out on your docs.It could be just the ITB cleaning blade which is one of the copier problems the 3100 has.

            Hi Thuk,
It's black smeary lines running parellel to the long side of an A3 colour copy. I've done a bit of cleaning bits and pieces and it seems ok again!
Still won't do an internal clean though - just locks out.
            Regards,
            Penelope

Marc! - good to hear from you.

Yes thanks, I had manufactured another IP address somehow and was trying to use the wrong one.

This cleaning thing - does it mean it won't do a internal clean because there is something wrong with the drum? Why won't it even have a go?

I obtained a service manual but it doesn't actually help to identify the fault very well. It says (as I understand it) error of the type 02 and with XX93:
'leakage from toner buffer inside developeing assembly, damage to sensor' ATR sensor do you think?
Not that I know what one of those is!

Anyway, I have no money at the moment and it is working of sorts. Thank you for ebaying for me though - I will save it so I know what to get later.
              Regards, Penelope

                Hi Canon.Tech,
Thank you for that. You have explained it very clearly for me. Especially the using lots of toner - V expensive!
So I'll start saving for a new drum.
If anyone comes across one, let me know. Is Ebay best or are there any other, more copier related, places you know of?
                Regards, Penelope

OK, so now I am confused!

I have just printed an A3 page with 3 broad black horizontal stripes. The white came out clean and clear of drag marks.
So then I did the same with cyan, yellow, magenta and cmyk black. Again all produced clean white between the colour bands.
So why does it give me dirty stripes across a mixed colour print? It just doesn't make sense!

                    Regards, Penelope

                      Hi glasstec,
Thanks, I'll remember that. I'll be in touch once I'm sure what I need. Not so sure about the drum now. See post about black horizontal stripes.
                      Regards,
                      Penelope
