CANON IRC3170U and CANON IR2020I Networking Issues

Hey all, new to the forum. Sad to say my first post is wanting help, rather than giving it.

I'll start with the 3170U, as it's the one that's giving me the greatest confusion. There's a small office that wants scan to file set up on the machine. Now, I can successfully get that working. For about 1hr and half. The Copier just decides that it no longer wants to find the work groups on the network. However, and get this, I can ping both the server they want to files scanned to, as well as the gateway the copier refers to for its IP address from the copier itself through the ping command in the IP settings. The other computers on the network can also ping the printer, and they can print to it. Now why in the world does it just drop the ability to scan for workgroups? I'm thinking of updating firmware, but I think another, more convenient solution, is to use the server's IP address instead of its workgroup/computer name.

The 2020I is a different headache all together. I have to get scan to email working on it, through gmail, and I've had 0 sucess there, despite holding the copiers hand and showing it kindly to the google smtp servers and telling it was port it needs to listen and talk on. I've even port forwarded that traffic to the copier just in case. Also, I can ping the copier on the network, the copier can ping everyone else, the print drivers find the copier, but I cannot print for any computer on the network. Why?

The 2020I has all the authentication it needs for the gmail account as well, almost forgot to mention it.

Update: Got the 2020I printing, had A4 selected on preferred paper, there's not A4 in the machine. Facepalm moment. Set it to LTRR or LTR and it prints woo.

Does the 2020I support SSL? I can't find the option.
