    Canon LClass 830i problem

I hope I am in the correct forum for this post. If not please forgive me and point me to the right forum.

I am trying to setup an LC830i to FTP scans to workstations. I do not have access to any manuals for the device.

Under the Admin web interface>Address>Favorites I need to know the format for the fields:
Hostname and File path. I have tried \\computername or \\ipaddress for the Hostname and c:\scan (a shared folder on the computer), however this does not work.

I have verified the ability to scan to the folder from a Lexmark Multifunction.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks,

windows 7: Scan to smb setup for shared folder

after doing all of this your windows 7 box should be visible and the account created should allow an xp box or a copier to login to the windows 7 box and send a file to a specified folder.

    step 1
    click start
    click control panel
    click user account
    click manage another account
    click create account
    name the account
    make it administrator
    give it a password

    step 2
on the bottom of the screen to the far left... You have start internet explorer and file explorer. Its basically just a folder

    click file explorer...
    Click local disk...
Across the top click new folder
    name the folder...
    Right click on the folder
    left click on properties
    choose sharing
    select share...
Type in user account you created...
    Click add...
    Give user read/write permission
    click share

    click advanced sharing
    click permissions

make sure full control, change and read are set to allow
    click ok

    click ok

    click close

    step 3

    click start
    click control panel
    click network and sharing center

    click change advanced sharing settings

set home or work to the following

    select turn on network discovery
    select turn on file sharing
select turn sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the public folder
this is up to you but i turned media streaming off

select enable file sharing for 40 to 56 bit encryption
select turn off password protected sharing
select use user accounts and passwords to conect to other computers

    under public
    select turn network discovery on
    select turn on file sharing
select turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the public folder
not needed but i turned off media streaming

select enable file sharing for devices that use 40 to 56 bit encryption

select turn off password protected sharing
    Practice makes perfect
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
A picture is worth a thousand words
If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself

      I appreciate your response.

However, I know how to setup the share on the computer. The shares work and I can scan to them from all of the other devices on my network.

I need the instructions specific to the Canon LC 830i FTP setup. This is a screen shot of the setting options:
      830i.JPG

The fields on the MFP Device are:
      Name:
      Protocol: FTP
      Host Name:
      File Path:
      User Name:
      Password:

I assume the Host Name is the computer name or ip address where the shared folder resides. The file path I assume is the path for the share (i.e. c:\scans). User Name and Password should be consistent with the account with access rights to the share.

Just to be sure, did you cycle power on the machine? The settings don't take effect until it reboots.

Another thing to check, is the shared folder on the root ftp site directory? Or in a sub-folder? I ran into one that couldn't scan into the root folder but once we added a sub-folder it worked fine.

Don't forget - you separate folders in an FTP path with the forward slash - the / character.

The backslash "\" is used in SMB (or UNC, if you will) paths.

It appears in your posts that you are using the backslash.

You want to populate the Hostname entry with the computer name or IP address.

The path is where it gets weird. For instance, with default settings on a Windows server running IIS with FTP services enabled, entering a / would map to the c:\inetpub\ftproot folder.

Example: If you were to create a folder under the ftproot folder, the path would be /scans. If you created a folder called george under the scans folder, the path would be /scans/george.

Keep in mind that there is no place in an FTP (or SMB) path for drive letters; the path must be spelled out.

required settings for sending files from a Canon device to a computer via FTP protocol.

HOST NAME: computer name or IP address of the FTP host computer.
FILE PATH: leave this section blank see Note 1:
USER: enter a valid user name that has write privilege to the host that you are sending to.
PASSWORD: enter the valid password for the user that you have entered above. * If the destination FTP Server allows anonymous access, you can enter anonymous for the Username and enter an email address or any text into the Password field.

** The USER and the PASSWORD fields totally depend on how the FTP server was configured and the privileges that were given to the username that you are using.
            Note 1:
            A) When the FILE PATH is left blank, the file will be sent to the FTP default root directory of the FTPserver.

            B) If you need to send to a folder or directory that is inside the default FTP root directory, then enter the name of the folder or directory in this section (do not use any \ back slashes or any other symbol at the beginning of the folder or directory name)
