    Black Boxes on Canon iR 2270 with Canon Generic PCL6 Driver v1.10

    I've got an issue that I've been struggling with now for quite some time...

    I am working on consolidating the print drivers on our print server. We have about 20 different Canon copiers and each one has their own driver. I've been trying to use the Canon Generic PCL6 driver and have had some good success with it thus far.

    The issue I am running into is with our Canon iR2270. When I print the standard Windows XP test page to this printer it comes out with the logo in the upper-left, however, all the text is rendered as black boxes. The black boxes vary in size, but are the correct size depending on what letter or number would have been there.

    I called our local support and asked them to update the firmware to the latest available on the Canon. After the update I am still getting the same result.

    Does anyone here have any suggestions?

      Does the PCL5e driver do that??? We avoid the PCL6 driver whenever possible. How about trying the UFRII driver instead?

                  I'm 99% sure that the 2270 does not support the Generic driver. (While it does support PCL6, it looks like it needs its specific PCL6 driver.)

                  You can tell because it's not listed under the 2270 downloads.

                  I agree - the UFR driver is normally the best selection for this machine.

                      Thanks for the info guys. I was hoping someone had come across this before and would have a simple fix.

                      I don't believe the UFRII driver will suit my needs as I would still need to install a driver for each model and we have quite a few! As I'm sure you guys know the Generic driver exists in order to consolidate to one single driver for all your Canon needs... Unless you have an older model like my 2270. Ugh!

                          Have each person at their workstation install the print driver needed
                          simple procedure~
