        Alright
who can break the encrypted file
Canon is bullshit with this stuff
I was doing the edit 10 years ago when they first came out
now i have to unlock an encrypted file to buy a 400 HDD from Canon that costs 50 bucks elsewhere

What a piece of work Canon has become first the dammed nethawk USB and now this
time to tell them to go to hell
        what a bunch of assholes

I too used to edit the drive table, but Canon figured out we were doing that and the encrypted the later models. No big deal, simply find out what model drive they are now selling as a replacement and hunt it down out in the world...

Toshiba MK4032GAX is the current model...

I think I remember reading somewhere that Canon are now putting the information that was on the bootrom on the hard drive that you buy from Canon. So even if you buy the same make it wont work.

Canon is doing nothing to the drives, they simply buy them in bulk, repackage them and sell them to their customers. These will be the same drives you can buy out in the world. The drives have always identified themselves,,, that is how the SST craps out when trying to format a drive not in the format table...

That is not a true statement~~~~~~~~~~~

U think someone sits in a Canon office and programs HDD's before they are sent out ??

IR 3225 Service manual page 386 11.1.27 Replacing the hard disk drive..

The service part HDD is equipped with the minimum required firmware to start the system; thus, turn the power on to make sure that it starts properly.

You picked the one example that is almost proving your point. Almost. The 3245 series hard drive comes from Canon with system software already installed,,, only happens for the 3245 family. You can boot it up without doing anything and it worked o.k. I have done it a time or two. The software already on that drive was at the latest level out of the box. I don't know why Canon chose to do that with that particular series. You are not supposed to format that drive, just update it. But now that is not entirely true,, as when you install the encryption kit on that series, you have to back up data if the copier has been in use, and configured, then format the drive and install the system software...

They have never done anything as was rumored to hard drives in their possession. I think for this model, this was yet another way to try and insure that drives were sourced directly from Canon. I never had a good answer in school as to why they went that route.

I know u can't format that Models HDD Drive / it's pre loaded with Bios Software
u need to purchase HDD from Canon- these HDD's can not be Formatted, SST ver.4.04Eq & newer will not allow it.

It's a BIOS issue & not related to the HD Format Files other poster was talking about that Canon encrypts on some models because of the Security Kits

                          imageRUNNER 3245 / 3235 / 3230 / 3225

Why Does the System Software Contain a Format File, If Formatting is Not Supported On This Series ?

The HDD on this series should not be formatted, unless a HDD Data Encryption Kit-B5 is being installed in the machine. The installation instructions for the Encryption Kit do tell you to format the HDD.

The instruction are correct; and it is ok to format the HDD, only during the installation of the HDD Data Encryption Kit-B5.

                          Note:
Be sure that the Encryption Board was installed in the machine prior to formatting the HDD.
When the Encryption Board is installed in the machine and the machine is turned on an E602 will occur.

At this point, turn the machine off and power back up in Download Mode. Next, format the drive and load the system software

I didn't know it was that model only, and like you say it does seem a rather strange way of ensuring customers buy genuine parts.

It has nothing to do with Canon OEM parts. Your lucky this is on only one Series Model.

Authorized Companies pay Canon a lot of money to train their techs.
