    Canon IR5020 "check the TCP/IP"

We have an aging 5020 that constantly shows the message "check the tcp/ip" regardless of what we do.

Plug in the network cable. Unplug the network cable.
We would like to be able to print to it and/or scan&send from it...
We have set it up with an IP address - but cannot see it from the network.

    Any clues as to why?

The Boot ROM Version is 20.36c

I may be wrong but I think you need an "n" version of firmware to use it on the network.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

      simple

a bad connect with your cable RG45.. check it.
      or your LAN card ??

"Check the Tcp/Ip" = your switch(HUB) or LAN card on your PC not connect to your machine.

      simple way.
1.check your cable with lan tester
      2.clean the socket.
      --in additional function--
3.check "half duflex - full duplex" or auto.

As Mr. Spock said, you have a copier and not a network printer. You can scan from it though. Go to the Canon Website and download Network ScanGear which is a utility used to find image Runner scanning devices over your network. The "c" designation is for copier. If your bootrom version was followed by an "n", that would indicate a Network Printer BootRom was installed.

        Good Luck.

PS; The message "Check TCP/IP Connection" indicates you either don't have the IP set up, you are not plugged in to a working data port, you have a bad cable or you have a bad NIC in the machine. If you have IP set up and the machine is plugged into a working data port, you should not get that message.

it needs a network boot rom for sure...make sure DHCP is not on if not enabled on network and turned on if customer uses DHCP(pain in the rear)

If its a bad network cable, hub, hub port,etc..it will say "check network connection",not "check tcp/ip"..not configured properly

              SWAGS:
              1. Reload system software (use parallel cable).
              2. Make sure it has the printer board.

first of all you need version "N" (network)boot rom. restart with new bootrom if error then restart again and should be ok. newer models do not have to flash with n version software. might need a stick of ram though, cant remember about memory, mines gone too.
