    Turkeyfoot ITA!

BEFORE you can calibrate a Fiery RIP, you must have the best possible COPY from the machine, clean optics, etc. Then you can forward the scanned data to the Fiery for calibration.

That is the way I've been taught in every instructor-lead class I've ever been in, since digital copiers were introduced!

    Good Call!

Auto-Cal is not forward over to the Fiery -

do not believe all u hear-read and see from Canon instructors-
      instruction is only direction-

visual observation ,hands on, and Real Time issues, prepare you out there.

if I did that in the past 25years working on Canon products,
I would never get anything done.

I know this is getting old, but I have to ask:

So what you're saying is, AutoCal doesn't affect the output of the fiery?

Because after you run an AutoCal, the output of a PS Test Page can change, therefore changing the output of the Fiery, no?

Machine Calibration always comes before fiery calibration. Any changes on the machine side will affect the output of the fiery. Make sure everything is clean, do a full auto grad adjust (make sure its done on the paper stock the customer is using. 28lb bright white works best i find) and then calibrate the fiery to the machine using either the kodak strips, or a desitometer. I find the Dens. works bet for me.

Auto -Cal will assist, but Fiery Calibration overwrites all settings/

I had -20- 3220's at one account that did not have a Reader/DF attached- so u were not able to do a AUTO-Cal/ off Glass- there was no glass-
Fiery Cal was all that was available/ with a Densitometer

i gotta say i've never seen a 3220 printer only. in that case i would assume fiery would be the only way to calibrate. but the original post wasnt for a machine without a feeder. I think towards imagePRESS C1 with had an option to do an auto grad adjust for just the printer, not the scanner so i can only assume the 3220 should have the same option. but i've dealt with the 3200/3220 series since they were released and i never heard of a printer only model.

                  ***CORRECTION***
Just looking in the updated service guide and i see the printer model available. will see what it says about calibration

there is Canon Calibration software available for printer only models-
                    Color Calibration Utility CC-100 v2.61

Color Calibration Utility CC-100 supports the Color imageRUNNER series Base Printer model only

but we never used, nothing beats a Densitometer

I was always instructed to run auto gradation before calibration when you have the scanner. Obviously it teckat's instance that was not possible with the printer only model. And he is correct nothing beats using a densitometer when calibrating a device.
