may be caused by a poor connection on the front door switch.

Inspect & try re-seating the connection at the front door open/close switch for the E840 code.

If paper is stuck in unit 1 frame side connector you might get a E840. If no paper is found in the connector check the connector for damage or cracks.

The ADF controller can cause an E840. The quick way to confirm this is to unplug the feeder and reboot the machine to see if the code is gone.

E840, sub code 001. Check the Fuse (FU108) on the DC Controller, to see if it is open. This part of the circuit supplies 5V to the sensors in the fuser area: PS6, 9, 10 and 11. Check for a pinched wire going to these sensors. The wire harness for the sensors is FM2-5098-000. Replacing the wire harness is time consuming and it may be best to replace the Fixing frame assembly, (FM2-6146-000).
