    TWAIN and Network Scanning

    Hi Gang,

The company I work for has quite a few Image Runners that we use for scanning to email and user folders, along with printing. We are about to make the transition to a new account management system that utilizes scan sheets with barcodes for simplifying the allocation of documents to specific client folders within the system. The problem is, that the system can only scan using TWAIN drivers, and in order for TWAIN to work over the network we must turn scanning "online" which renders email and network scanning useless. Is this one of those situations where we can have one functionality or the other but not both at the same time? Thanks in advance for all your help.

in order to use the twain you have to turn the machine online. There is no way around that with the canon product line when network scanning.

I don't remember the name of the software right now, but a few months ago I found a program that can TWAIN scan from a folder; your application sees it as a TWAIN source, just like any other.

You would "push" scan from the imageRUNNER to a folder, then use you application to TWAIN scan from that folder. You can even have the program auto-delete the original file.

As I recall, the cost was about $75 per copy, so pricing was reasonable.

Please post back here if you want me to look in my "archives" to find the vendor name.

That would be a cool program to see in action

Thanks for all the great responses! I'm going to meet with the VP of our IT dept. today and discuss our options, although $75 per user has the potential to be expensive, it also could quite possibly be cheaper than getting a standalone PC and scanner in each branch. Again, thanks for your knowledge/input.

The cost is actually $69 per workstation, and as I recall, you can get quantity price breaks.

BTW... They also have a product called "MFP TWAIN Importer" but I think it works with Xerox MFPs only.
