Socket Error when trying to flash ImagePass H1

This started after trying to reload system software with a Windows 7 PC. I've never seen it when using an Windows XP computer.

"BOOTPD : Socket has not been created 10049"

Must be a windows network card setting, just wondering if anyone has seen this before?

Re: Socket Error when trying to flash ImagePass H1

I have never attempted to load the H1 from the DVD on a windows 7 box

use to run into this every once in a while on the old fiery's where the network config wasn't setup correctly between the two devices and the fiery utilities or CWS would throw this message. I would start with your network config on your win 7 PC. make sure all the firewalls are off and it configured correctly to talk to the imagepass.

Yes I thought that might pose a problem. My laptop is all tied up with Symantec protection from my company.

So I tried a desktop PC, also Windows 7 32bit and received the same error. I tried disabling Windows firewall with no luck... The TCP/IP configuration is the same as it was on my XP laptop, auto configure IP.

I know I could use a thumbdrive, just trying to get to the bottom of this....

In theory it should work. It works with Vista OS and Win 7 is based off of that.

Yep I know, in theory. Now I've tried three different Windows 7 PC's with the same results. Still not sure what's going on...

Grab the 8 gig thumbdrive, prepare it with the utility and load the software on it. Sounds like it will be quicker than what you are currently attempting...

Installation of the System Software can be done over the LAN Port with the Fiery System Software Installer or by using a USB Flash Drive with the USB Flash Tool.
Care needs to be taken when installing System Software. Be sure to follow the provided instructions carefully. Particularly important is the positioning of the two mode dip switches on the imagePASS.

Re: Socket Error when trying to flash ImagePass H1
BEST WAY TO UPDATE or RE-INSTALL H1 FIRMWARE is with USB

                USB Flash Tool Procedure:http://downloads.canon.com/isg_public/USB_FLASH_TOOL.iso

Installing System Software From a Prepared USB 2.0 Flash Drive:
                1. Print out a Configuration page.
                2. Shut down the imagePASS (via the operation panel of the copier).
                3. Power off the copier.
                4. Be sure to leave the imagePASS-H1 connected to the copier (via the cross-over ethernet and communications
                cables).
                5. Attach the prepared USB 2.0 Flash Drive to a USB Type A connector on the imagePASS-H1.
                6. DO NOT move the imagePASS-H1 service dip-switches to the service (download) position.
                Leave the dip-switches
                in the normal position.

The problem is the majority of my guys don't get issued or just dont have thumbdrives. They all have windows 7 laptops however. Just another case of aging equipment not playing nice with newer OS 's.

Thanks guys for all your input!

Re: Socket Error when trying to flash ImagePass H1

Just an update, I found a thread on the CUSA site about this. Setting your Windows 7 laptop to a fixed IP IP Address: 169.254.159.240
                    Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
                    Default Gateway: 169.254.159.1

Will get you past the 'Socket' error!

Still having another problem however. Now it goes through Disk 1, when I insert Disk 2 it has a new error saying Incorrect Volume, insert correct disk. I've tried changing to another set of CD's, and I've tried another H1.

I'm thinking its something to do with my Symantec security on my laptop. At first I had to disable all three modules to get the installation moving, otherwise it would not error, just hang until it timed-out.
But after I got frustrated and stopped trying, I noticed that one of those modules had turned itself back on.

So now I'm going to go back and monitor Symantec and see what its doing during the install.

                    We'll see!

Well I've found an even simpler solution. Starting Windows 7 in safe mode. No CD errors, no problems with Symantec.

Still had to use that Static IP though.

                        Problem resolved.
