Clean toner sensor on the dev unit it could cotted with toner. Also check toner level in the dev unit,if it is low go to service mode and perform installation of toner in the dev unit, thus:COPIER>FUNCTION>INSTALL.Ensure that the hopper motor is functional.

check the Sub Hopper Toner Sensor TS2.

"Replace Toner Cartridge or Add Toner" is shown on the Display after replacing the Toner Cartridge.

Check the two Cam Bottle Slides for cracks, replace if needed FC5-1215-000 / FC5-1268-000.NCF000020000_Figure%20621-1.jpg

I had to replace a hopper once for someone and I do believe that this was the cause as there wasnt a toner mess senario observed. Hoppers are only 63 bucks, funny I remember that part.
