    UNDER SEND
    select File Format
The icons that are displayed on the screen are:
    - : Divide into Pages
    - : Trace and Smooth
    - : Compact
    - : OCR (Text Searchable)
    - : Encrypt
    - : Add Digital Signatures
[PDF]: Sends the file in the PDF format regardless of the color
mode. You can also specify [Trace & Smooth], [Compact], [OCR (Text Searchable)], [Encrypt], and/or
    [Add Digital Signatures].

    Sending a Compact PDF

    IMPORTANT

You cannot send a compact PDF in any of the following cases:
    - If the color mode for the document is Black-and-White
    - If the color mode for the document is Full Color/Grayscale (Automatic Color Selection)
and the resolution is set to less than 300 dpi
    - If the document is a long strip original (33 1/2" (850 mm) or longer) (long strip originals
of up to 24 7/8" (630 mm) can be scanned using the scanning area of the machine, but
long strip originals longer than 630 mm can only be received by I-fax, etc.)

    NOTE

This mode is available only if the optional Universal Send PDF Advanced Feature Set
(standard-equipped for the imageRUNNER C5180i/C4580i/C4080i) is activated.

PDF compact does not come as standard on this model. You need to buy a licence for it.

You can check for the LMS-based Printer Kit on the Canon device the same way as you would check for any other installed LMS-based option or kit.

          Perform the following steps:

          1. Press the [Counter Check] button on the copier control panel.

          2. Hit the [Device Configuration] button on the LCD screen.

          3. Scroll down through all of the available pages on this Device Configuration screen. Look for either PS, PCL or UFRII. The methods listed here (ex. PS, PCL, or UFRII) are installed and are available for printing.

For example, if you find UFRII and PCL, but do not find PS on this screen on an iR C5180, it means that the UFRII/PCL Printer Kit is installed, but the PS Printer Kit is not installed. The exact Canon Printer Kits available vary by device model. See your specific device's documentation for more information.

          * Note - You will need to install the appropriate printer drivers on the workstation in order to print.

          imageRUNNER C4080i / C4580i / C5180i - UFRII/PCL Printer Kit -N1 (standard)
          - PS Printer Kit -N1 * (optional)
          - imagePASS H1 ** (optional)
          - ColorPASS GX100 ** (optional)
          imageRUNNER C4080 / C4580 / C5180 - UFRII/PCL Printer Kit -N1 (optional)
          - PS Printer Kit -N1 * (optional)
          - imagePASS H1 (optional)
          - ColorPASS GX100 (optional)

          * PS Printer Kit-N1 requires that UFRII/PCL Printer Kit-N1 and iR 512MB Expansion RAM-C1 be previously installed.
** Requires the optional Open Interface Board on the 'i' models.

These are the available print options and item codes for the imageRUNNER C5180 / C4580 / C4080 Series:
          Print Options:
          Item Codes:
          UFRII/PCL Printer Kit-N1 1344B001AA
          PS Printer Kit-N1 1346B001AA
          imagePASS H1 0877B001AA
          ColorPASS GX100 1139B001AA

Universal Send PDF Advanced Feature Set
The Universal Send PDF Advanced Feature Set improves the performance of PDF files created on the machine. It enables the Compact PDF, Trace & Smooth, and Searchable PDF modes.
If you are using the Color imageRUNNER C5180/C4580/C4080, to use the features of the Universal Send PDF Advanced Feature Set, it must be activated by registering a license key.

Universal Send PDF Advanced Feature Set-A1 (Sales Item # 1323B002AA):
cost is about $ 900.00 US
          call CANON USA

          Set Includes the following functions:

          1. PDF (OCR) - Enables the device to send PDF documents in OCR mode (as searchable PDF files).

          2. PDF (Compact) - Manage file sizes with PDF High Compression mode.

          3. Trace & Smooth PDF - Utilize Trace & Smooth PDF functionality. Trace & Smooth PDF mode enables users to convert the text of a scanned image to scalable outline data (vector graphics). The outline data is less jagged at the edge and the extracted outline data can be used in Adobe Illustrator (note that actual results may vary)

            Re: ir c5185 scan question

Are these licenses a one time fee or a subscription?

Do they stay with the machine or are they transferable?

I'm looking to buy a used machine that is why I am asking.

            thanks

When transferring your key from one copier to another, you must make sure to disable the License Key on the imageRUNNER you are transferring from. The copier will then generate a transfer key number. You will need this number when you call the Technical Support Center to transfer the license.
Please follow the procedure outlined below:
              1. Enter into Service Mode on the copier (hit Additional Functions, then 2 and 8, then Additional Functions).
              2. Enter Level 2 in Service Mode (hit Additional Functions, then 2).
              3. Press Copier.
              4. Select Option.
              5. Choose LCNS-TR.
              6. Set the appropriate kit option to 0 (ex. for Universal Send Kit, set ST-Send to 0). Hit OK.
              7. Write down Transfer License Key (ex. TR-Send) generated by the copier under this setting.
              8. Call the Technical Support Center with the device serial numbers and the Transfer License Key.

              * Make sure you have this number (Transfer License Key) handy when calling the TSC. This number must be provided to ensure that the License was indeed cancelled on the imageRUNNER.

              Contacting the Technical Support Center:

Contact the Technical Support Center at 1-800-528-2830 to transfer a license from one device to another.
You will be required to have the following information:

              1. The serial number of the old device.
              2. The serial number of the new device. (Verify that this serial number exists in your dealer inventory).
              3. The Transfer Key number. To get the Transfer Key number, you will have to disable the license on the old device (see above).
              4. The Orginal LAN number for that specific option being transfered.

You only need to call the Technical Support Center to transfer the license from one machine to another machine. You do not need to call the Technical Support Center to disable the license on a given machine. Simply follow the procedure above to disable the license on your device. Write down the resulting Transfer Key Number and the serial number of the device that you disabled the license on. Also write down the License Access Number for the kit. Keep this information in a safe place. When you have the serial number for the new device that you want to transfer the kit to, then call the Technical Support Center with all of the above required information. The Technical Support Center staff can then transfer the license in the LMS system and generate a new license key number for your new device.

Thank you so much for all your help.

I ended up buying that new machine but it was not powered on so I couldn't check the license. After moving it and bringing it back I noticed there were stickers on the back indicating it had the PDF options at one time. After powering it up I can confirm it did have those licenses. Yeah!

                thanks again
