Keep getting "Adjustment failed" on gradation adjustment

Each time I replace or refill a cartridge I make a gradation adjustment because sometimes the colors become off after a new cartridge. This time it prints the test image and when I put it in the scanner, after scanning it keeps saying adjustment failed.

It could be that I'm not putting the sheet at the right place, one of the many things I don't like about this machine is that nowhere does it tell you where to align sheets on the scanner bed, on every HP machine I had there is an indication and arrow at the corner where you should place the sheet, the canon has no indications whatsoever, does anyone know if the sheet goes on the top left, top right, bottom left or bottom right?

If the location isn't the issue (I've tried a few different places already) what else could be causing the adjustment to fail as soon as it scans the page?

    Thanks
