The one-way clutch inside goes bad. You can try cleaning it and putting a drop of oil inside it. Easy to get at. Just pop off the back cover and its right there.

Check the front offset guide for sticking. Remove the noise reduction foam for solonoid actuation. This was another PITA on this finisher after swing guide had been replaced by someone else. The whole problem was a piece of foam and I do beleive that that was a similar error if not this same one. Something you better check .

Check the Compression Spring on MSW3, located on the rear frame side of the Finisher, make sure it did not become dislodged. This will prevent the switch from being actuated by the Tray Frame Assembly.

Installing a new Compression spring on MSW3 the finisher began to function normally. If the spring is installed correctly and is intact, verify the operation of the switch.

If sensor PI-5 is not aligned correctly when the finisher starts up the gate will not open and close. This gives the appearance that the gate motor or sensor is not working when in fact the sensor to the shutter did not change state, causing an E584 code
Ensure that PI-5 is changing state when the shutter is raised and lowered. This can be checked at J12B-6 on the finisher controller. A change of 5 VDC should occur at this pin location.

Check the switch on the rear side of the finisher, increase the spring tension and adjust the switch actuator.

This MS3 switch detects the movement of the of the trays

figure q38 in F1 parts. fh7-5940. SL6 you can see it in the front. remove foam or dab with grease. Can interfer! Make sure your switchs are ok and dont be afraid to bend the mounts if needed. SL6 connects to the shutter lever.

Its actually not a gear. Its called Cam,Shutter in the parts manual. Part number is FB3-7298. Item 16 in parts manual,Swing assembly,Figure Q36. The one way is inside it. This is a very common issue on these finishers...same used on irc3200. Pop the e-clip off when you have the back cover off. Can be changed in 2 minutes.
