Hi all. I have this issue with a canon lbp 5000. It moves black exactly 1cm down and does a "shadow" effect when printing photos. I changed the drum, chip and the charging roller of the black toner, cleaned the LSU and the color registration sensors. In the printer status windows, it says " black - check cartridge". I attached the service print charts. I really need your help on this one. img006.jpgimg005.jpg

Hi, Have you replaced a new cartridge 707 bk ?
if the cartridge is old, perhaps the developing cylinder is not working ok -
Re: Canon LBP 5000 - black problem
Hi.The printer only has aprox 3800 copies. In the service manual , it says that "check cartridge" means that either the drum or the developer section is worn out. I'll check the developer section and come back with detalis. Thank you for your reply.Comment

Re: Canon LBP 5000 - black problem
Hi all. I changed all the cartridges, and it does aprox the same thing except now it makes the "shadow" on magenta and cyan. Even after changing the cartridges, it still says " check black cartridge". I attached a print from this machine, maybe you'll see better what i'm talking about. I'm stuck on this one. Please help.

Re: Canon LBP 5000 - black problem
Hi. The ITB seems ok. The printer only has aprox 3800 copies, so it's not worn out. THe calibration can only be done from the printer status window. The service menu has no "special calibration" option. I'm thinking to clean the laser again and all sensors. I heard it's a common problem with these models, also hp 1600, 2600, but nobody seems to point out specific steps to solving this problem.Comment

Re: Canon LBP 5000 - black problem
In HP 2600 there are buttons - cold reset sometimes solves some of these issues.
But LBP 5000 has no buttons for cold reset..
I have read in some russian forums that they solve the problem with preprogramming some chip... i will search for this info and will write again.Comment

Re: Canon LBP 5000 - black problem
Hi all. I cleaned the cartridges ( mag roller, doctor blade, contacts, etc) and it still does the same thing. Black is moved about 1 cm and cyan makes a bit of a shadow. I tried with other 4 cartridges and the image is exactly the same. So my guess is that the problem is not from the cartridges. Even after changing the cartridges, it still says in the status window "black - check cartridge". So something is not right with the printer. Any ideas?Comment

Re: Canon LBP 5000 - black problem
On single pass printers like the function of the transfer belt is similar to a charge transfer roller. It provides a HV charge to the back of the paper to pull the toner down. It could in no way affect the registration. On carousel type printers, the transfer belt has toner applied to it in successive passes and then the total image gets applied to the paper.
Had a 5000n with colours **WAY** out of alignment. factory reset fixed it when multiple re-calibrations did not
Restored factory default . . . bang on - perfect - A1 - first time.
On a different machine i had to replace the generic toner cartridges with oem ones to fix the issue. DO NOT use crappy generic toner and you will have much better results
Print out an error code and look for error 54.XXXX color plane registration. How many clicks on that printer?sigpicAnything can be made to work if you fiddle with it long enough- San Diego Copier Repair.comComment

Re: Canon LBP 5000 - black problem
For misalignment problems the manual recommends the following:
Probable cause
When the toner level is low or the photosensitive drum is deteriorated, a defective
image “color misalignment” may occur.
Servicing work
Display the Printer Status Window:Run by clicking [ ] (Display Printer Status Window) in locations such as in the [Page Setup] sheet in the [Document Properties] dialog box.
The functions on the Printer Status Window are the same on both Windows 98/Me
and Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003.
Menu Bar
[Job] Menu Performs a job operation (pause, resume, or delete). Also, when a job
is paused for some reason, you can resume the job by selecting
[Resolve Error]. The current job for which you have no access
permission is grayed out.
[Options] Menu Allows you to change the preferences for the Printer Status Window
and perform calibration of the printer.
[Help] Menu Allows you to search for the desired items using keywts
The [Utility] menu performs calibration of the printer or Con
figuration Page Print.
[Calibration]
Performs calibration of the printer manually. Perform calibration when the colors have
changed and the data is not printed in the correct colors or alignment off.
The above info lets users access calibration for color or alignment problems but to reset the printer you must access service mode :
LBP5000 / LBP5100
The machine is equipped with service mode to enable the service person to check its condition. On a PC, enter the appropriate ID from the keyboard to add a special
menu to the Printer Status Window screen.
Starting Service Mode
1. Turn on the power so that the Printer Driver screen appears.
2. On the Drive screen, bring up the Status window [1].
3. Enter the appropriate password (*28*) from the keyboard.
4. See that service mode [2] has appeared on the Option menu of the Status Window screen.
