[Misc] Canon imageRunner 330n Permissions Issue...

I have a client with an imageRunner 330n black and white copier, which he has networked.
When we try to add the printer to his laptop (XP Pro), it comes up with an error saying it does not have permission to access the printer.

We are trying to add \\CANON_330\Print to the system.
    XP Pro SP 3, Lenovo, P4, 2GB, 320GB.

I logged into the copier, and only found options to edit the printer spool/history... nothing about blocking/firewall/permissions/etc.

Can somebody give me an idea of what to try next?

    A few things:

    1. Make sure that SMB printing is enabled on the RIP; as I recall, it's not by default.

    2. Make sure you use backslashes ( \ ), instead of the forward slashes ( / ), in the UNC name. (Your post shows forward slashes.)

    3. This is not a point-and-print device, where the printer will install the driver for you. You must get the driver from another source (like the Canon site) to install.

    4. Keep in mind that while there are still an number of ir330s out there, this machine is a dinosaur by today's standards. I don't think that XP was ever "officially" supported on it.

    Good luck!

      Hi Ken,

More info... this printer works on 3 other workstations running XP... just not his laptop.
As for the UNC addy, I typed it in wrong here, I was using the right UNC... it sees the CANON_330 device on the domain (browse printers in Add Printer Wizard), however when trying to access it to get the actual '\Print' dropdown to select... that is when we get no further and blocked by a permissions error. (Actually, in Add Printer Wizard, it just stops and does nothing... when accessing the UNC directly in explorer, that is when we get the permissions pop-up).

      3. I can't get that far I would gladly give it the drivers it wants... if it would let me.

Also to mention, no 3rd party firewall, and Win firewall is disabled.
I told my client he may have to contact a canon tech, somebody with more experience in these... I am mainly a home user/printer type service provider... but I'd like to know what my next steps are in case he calls back to me.

Hopefully I can get the dinosaur roaring :\

Could consider using "Standard TCP/IP port" under "Create new port" during Add Printer setup, it lesser hassle. There might a limits on how many connections when SMB method is used
