We have a IRC3220 in the field that says replace black toner and we have tried 2 different toner cartridges, it will run for a day then say it again. Is there a sensor that could be bad or something else causing this? Thanks for any help.

Re: C3220 keeps saying replace toner
At the far end of the drum are a couple of tabs that open the toner hopper as the drum unit is slid in, are they broken?
See pdf for more info

Re: C3220 keeps saying replace toner
Tech is going back out today, he will check this. Also, I noticed the pdf says something about removing the drum with a service guide tool???? Im embarrassed to admit, I've been in this business since 1996 and have no idea what they are talking about. Am I missing something important?Comment

Operating the toner supply motors in service mode Copier/Function/Part-Chk
When using service mode Copier/Function/Part-Chk/Mtr to check the operation of the toner supply motors for each color, and you find you are unable to run all the motors successfully, use the following procedure to run the motors:
It is recommended the machine be in a ready to copy condition before trying to run the motors.
* Enter service mode Copier/Function/Part-Chk
* Open the front door of the copier and remove the toner cartridge of the motor you want to test.
* Cheat the door interlock, (making sure the switch is fully activated, the machine will not cycle through initialization).
* Select Mtr and input the number of the toner supply motor you want to check, then press OK.
* Select Mtr On and press OK, the motor should run for approximately 10 seconds.
IMPORTANT: To check the operation of another toner supply motor you must remove the door interlock, pull the cartridge of the motor you want to check next, then reinstall the door interlock and follow the procedure again. Failure to remove the interlock prior to pulling the next toner cartridge will result in the motor operation not being performed.
