[Misc] Canon W8400 - Banding Problem on Prints

When I print from the Canon W8400, banding occurs on the print.

Black doesn't suffer from banding, but it does have smearing.

Also, colours tend to print funny. For example, if I have two purple shapes on a page, made of the same exact purple, one will print correct (with no banding), the other will print wrong (with banding).

    Any suggestions?

        Printhead counter??

        Firmware??

        1.Dirty carriage rail
Use rail cleaner to clean the carriage rails if a visual check reveals that they are
        dirty or other abnormalities.
        2.Head tilt lever
Check if changing the position of the head tilt lever fixes the problem.
        3.Purge unit
Perform a visual check, and remove any foreign objects adhering to the caps and
        wipers.
        4.Print adjustment check
Execute print adjustment, and adjust the shift between nozzle arrays.
        5.Printhead
Execute head cleaning, and replace the printhead if the result is not improved.
        6.Linear scale
Replace the linear scale if it is dirty or otherwise does not function normally.
        7.Replace the carriage unit.
        8.Replace the carriage relay PCB.
        9.Replace the engine controller.
        10. Replace the system controller.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it

I guess Kitty was expecting a shorter answer

Since Printheads come in a box together with a CD with the latest firmware, I would suggest replacing the printhead with firmware upgrade could be your issue

Actually, zoraldinho's post is extremely useful becuase the problem seems random. At least, I have different things to try now.
However, I know it is not the firmware, as I already have the latest one (2.15).

Looks like a printhead issue to me. How old are the heads?

Also, what RIP are you using? ie...Onyx, Flexi, etc

Re: Canon W8400 - Banding Problem on Prints

90 % of quality issues are related to print-head.
You should change the print head first (also update the firmware) - than if you still have issues - post the problem here.
