Taking too long printing from Adobe Illustrator

    Happy New Year Guys,

Just recently set-up a customer's copier IRC3200n for network printing, had difficulty at first printing due to the network board faulty but after replacing the network board it was able to print perfectly. Test print and it was okay, except that when printing from Adobe Illustrator programe it would take long before it can print, sometimes it would take almost half an hour and this really frustrated the customer, but when printing from word, excel or jpeg format it would print in a couple of seconds.
I have come to think, that this copier models are not compatible for printing from some programes, otherwise maybe the memory has to be upgraded to cater for the graphic images.

Any idea on other possible ways i can have it print from Adobe Illustrator with out having to wait that long for the printing process to take place.

    cheers

Illustrator is vector based, which means the document is composed of mathematical calculations. This will bog down printers when the math is especially complex...ie gradient fills. Is the Illustrator document composed of complex gradients? Is it slow when the AI document is only text?

          try this,
          Print PDF as an image

Problems can occur when you print a PDF file. For example, a PDF file can contain damaged content such as images or fonts that Acrobat cannot process during printing. Printing a PDF file as an image bypasses that processing by sending the printer a simple image of the document instead. This process can cause images and fonts to look slightly rougher, especially at the edges. However, you can specify the resolution in dots per inch (dpi) to suit your needs.
          1. Ensure that your printer is turned on and connected.

If necessary, test print a different file.
          2. Choose File > Print, and then click Advanced.

Important (For Mac OS only): If you don't see the Advanced button, click the Down Arrow (to the right of the Printer pop-up menu).
          3. Select Print As Image.

          4. Click OK to close the Advanced Print Setup dialog box, and then click Print.

Have tested it on text only and it prints out a lot faster than once was, also saved the job on jpeg format and it is faster when printing out. Coming to terms that the fault might be from document is composed of mathematical calculations, making it slower in terms of setting the gradients and so. I dont have a fiery controller and i think if i have it on the copier it would make printing a lot faster and easier, also is there an update for the driver cos i'm using canon printer driver PCL5e/5c - version 8.70? Thanks guys for all the info, it has helped me solve my problem on these issue.
