ImageRUNNER 110 (Kodak Digimaster 9110) possible Fuser Issue

Our old workhorse has started showing signs of the toner "chalking" from the front of one sheet onto the back of the sheet on top of it. It happens on all weights of stock (Texts to cover). You do have to rub the sheets together to get it to show, it doesn't happen if the sheets are just sitting on each other.

Now for the odd part. Yes the fuser is showing the right temp, and the actual image doesn't look like it is missing any areas after you rub the sheets together to get the transfer. Canon/Kodak support after troubleshooting has told us that this is normal for the machine. Does this sound right? Also for double sided stuff, the second side (the side that has run through the machine twice) doesn't seem to have this issue. Any ideas?

Attached is a digital photo from my iPhone, hopefully it is clear enough to make out what I am referring to. I did circle the areas in question.sample.jpg

This is somewhat common on those. I think they modified the toner as an effort to improve that. All I can say is try to send back the toner for an exchange, and make sure the fuser oil system is working good.

Thanks for the info Chameleon, that's a little disappointing considering how solid the machine is. I followed your advice and placed an order for new toner. Will be in tomorrow. Do you know when they re-formulated the toner? Also, are there any tech. publications released to accompany the toner mod, anything I should adjust on the machine?

This would have been a few years ago when I went through the 150VP school. The trainer brought up the issue you have and mentioned the change in toner to fix it, I think there was some mark or dot on the bottle that indicated the update toner.

He also said a dry running machine could cause it as well. It isn't the easiest to get at but check the oil tube from the reservoir to the roller for kinks, cracks or clogs. Also, those oil rollers have a ceramic core that can crack. If you hold it in your hand and shake it you will be able to feel any crack. GL

Chameleon, thanks for the help. I did order a new batch of toner. It seems to be running cleaner (still getting it worked into the mix). After doing some research, it looks like Kodak released a change to the MSDS back in February of 2010. They did increase the amount of toner in the bottle, I just wonder if there is anything else they did.

Also, we are researching the idea of increasing the fuser temp by 20 degree's and replacing the one-shots with ones from the 125 or 150's. Since those machines run the fusers hotter maybe we can do it to my 110 without major consequence. Thoughts?
