How to add user name to printout on Canon iR2870

As the thread states, we have a Canon iR2870 that we use as a fax/copier/scanner/printer.

Is there a way to have the printer print the user name of the person who submitted the job?

This canon is in a AD environment, and everyone who prints to it is a user in the domain. Is there a setting somewhere on the canon that will do this?

For example, if user "msmith" sends a job to the printer, I would like to be able to print out "msmith" at the bottom, top or wherever it can print out that user name on the printout.

to my knowledge there isnt a way on the B+W's mate. u'd probably need some sort of accounting software to do that. i might be wrong but wait for other replies.

I'm not sure, because I don't have one in front of me, but I believe there's a feature that will allow you to print out a header page or something of that nature.

Or you could use the application you're printing from to create a header when the print job is submitted.

From what I read, you want the Header as a means to quickly identify jobs sitting in the output tray. Is that the case?

Yes...I want to be able to identify what belongs to who in the output tray.

We use several different apps..excel, word, a custom aviation parts program..internet explorer..etc etc..so.

Dont know why u want to do this but if its simply to make it easy for the guys to find their print jobs .Have you considered Mailboxing?

Have each user go to printer property and create a separater sheet.

Not an answer as the last time I even heard about headers was the school, but 2 things to check in to:

Print out the User Data List and see if the header sheet feature is turned on. Never used it myself so do not know if the header sheet is by the user or job but either way may do what you want.

MAYBE - if you assign each person a user ID or department code, that will print a header or at least give you could get a job listing that identifies them.

All Canon MFDs have the option to print user names.

Go into printer Properties, from the General tab:

Printing Preferences > Page Options > Print User Name (change to 'on').

Job done.

Also there is the option of Secure Print from printer driver.

Will secure print do that..i think it is just for printing secure jobs in mailbox(password needed)

iR2870>properties>printing preferences>page options>print user name
