    Re: irc5180 varying registration

there are a ton of threads about this topic with both the 5180 and 3200 series. Take a read of those and follow the instructions in them.
Accidents don't just happen. They must be carelessly planned.

The only time I have seen them do it is when they need a complete ITB rebuild and done the right way. Other than that these boxs dont have flakey reg problems and i have worked on a bunch over the last ten years.

        STAPLING MISALIGNMENT

beaause swing guide gap is a bit too wide
the first fix was to change 2 or 3 static eliminators to softer type fc5-3667
last fix is to make sure finisher version is 7.01 and you can adjust swing guide gap.

you can figure out a way to adjust the sensor height ( a smidge) to achieve the same goal

Consult technical publication TP08 230 for information to minimize skewed sets of paper.
          TP08.pdf

On page five of the publication there are instructions for determining the down position of the swing guide. An alternate procedure uses a spring gauge to adjust the down pressure of the swing guide.
          Alternate Procedure:
Prepare a 20lb letter size sheet of paper with a punch in the short edge of the paper. This will be with for a spring gauge.
          a) Turn off the imageRUNNER.
          b) Set finisher controller pcb bit 1,2,5,7 & 8 to 'on'.
          c) Turn on the imageRUNNER.
          d) Press switch 103 once to raise the swing guide.
          e) Place letter paper in the swing guide path in the landscape direction.
          f) Press switch 103 once to lower the swing guide.
          g) To apply more pressure press switch 102 (each press = .2mm), to lower pressure press switch 101 (each press = .2mm).
          h) Adjust the pressure so that the paper begins to pull out at 200 to 300 grams of pressure.
          i) Press switch 103 once to lock in the adjustment. turn off all dip switches and reboot the machine.

If a spring gauge is not available, adjust the down position so that the sheet of paper has a slight drag when pulled away from the swing guide.

Poor Stacking and Stapling in the Finisher
          TP07.pdf TP07-1.pdf
First, perform the procedures in TP07 231, TP07 315, and TP08 230. After completing the procedures in the Tech Pubs, and the symptom is still observed; check the Mylar mounted to the rear of the swing guide. The Mylar may be hitting the shaft above the Mylar thereby preventing the swing guide from opening completely. Trimming the Mylar on the rear of the swing guide approximately 2 mm has corrected this problem.
