Have a customer that says after the copy process finishes, a loud high pitched screaching sound comes from the copier (ir3300). The technician was only able to hear this once and when he opened the door to see where it was coming from, it stopped. The customer says it happens often but we have not been able to get it to happen while we are there. Any ideas?

Re: ir3300 screaching noise
most noises come from the paper pick up unit:
Solution :
If a vibrating noise is coming from the Paper Pick-Up assembly when paper is being fed and the cassette Separation Rollers have pre-mature wear or flat spots, try replacing the Torque Limiter for the cassette separation rollers with the part number of RB1-6588-000. Part number RB1-6588-000 is the old style torque limiter but has been known to perform better in some cases.
Solution :
The shaft located in the upper rear left corner of the paper pick-up assembly is getting worn down. The belt support plate in figure 310, item 10 over time may start to spin with the belt causing a squealing noise from the metal to metal contact. Clean the plate and shaft, then lubricate with a silicone based grease to eliminate the noise.

Workaround :
Check the paper pick up assembly. There is a metal disc found in the paper pick up drive; located above the paper pick up unit's PCB.The metal disc comes in contact with the paper pick up unit's plastic housing. This metal disc will need to be re lubricated over time as the lubrication will wear away. The lubricant used is a lithium based grease. Canon provides a part number for this type of grease, it is CK-0427-000. The side of the metal disc that needs lubrication would be the side that faces the rear of the machine. The red arrow, in the picture provided below, points to the metal disc and the side that should be lubricated.

Re: ir3300 screaching noise
- The most likely suspect component is the hard drive. My dell laptop used to make a similar irritating noise until I changed the hard drive. Of course the noise could also be coming from elsewhere,it tends to be intermittent, a proper diagnosis will definitely lead you to the culprit.
