IR3570 lead edge dirty on back

I'm working on an IR3570. The lead edge of the back of the copy is dirty for about an inch.
The copy is dirty before it reaches the fuser. I replaced the drum unit and transfer roller to no avail.
It is using generic toner. I am wondering if the dev. unit is bad or over-toned. Any help would be appreciated.

Some Canon models are very forgiving with generic toner but on this model we only use the Oem Canon toner to avoid problems. Purge the dv unit and start from scratch with oem toner and see if that helps.

Go into service mode and print a PG 7 alternatively open the feeder and press the copy button, either way will produce a dark copy.

Can the toner be rubbed off with your fingers ?

I have the same symptom. Have tried another drum, dev assy, right door assy, guide varistor, hvt assy. Checked all earths and contacts touching and clean. May have to condemn machine but it is improved by running with a different drum assy and dev assy and may be good enough to go back in the field.

I got this before, I changed the cleaning blade, and it worked clean.

              Hi,
Yes it is being caused by excess toner dropping out of the Dev housing. It's dropping on the transfer belt and being deposited on the transfer roller in the door before it gets a chance to be cleaned off the belt by the ITB cleaner.
The transfer roller in the right hand door is about 1 inch in diameter, so the paper is cleaning it off the roller, which is of course before the fuser.
And it improving with new or replacement dev housing is another sign of why it is happening.
The cause is more than likely generic toner. I have never successfully used gen toner in any machine (Xerox, Canon or Rioch) and would never advise or guarantee a machine that has been used with it. There is a difference of course between compatible toner and generic / 'universal' toner.
