[Misc] ir3300 Scanning - Pull software alternatives ?

    Hello everyone !

I am trying to deploy an ir3300 (Not an I) to a small office. The office has originally scoped out a push-style scan to a central location - But the model is a 3300. I am trying to track down more E-Copy desktop installs, but having troubles finding both availability and price.

I have my own copies of E-Copy, none to deploy.

Is there a chance I can somehow make the 3300 hardware become a virtual 3300i ? Is there a way to make this model do push scans ?

As a last bit - the RemoteUI on this model claims to be blank. All features seem to work, but RemoteUI loads with no content. I was thinking if a harddrive re-image was in the cards, why not try to give it an image that can do push scanning ?

Finally, if the idea of making it an "i" series is bunk, is there an alternative to the E-Copy desktop software ?

Thank you, in advance for your help.

Re: ir3300 Scanning - Pull software alternatives ?

    Hi,

Just so you are aware. Ecopy desktop was discontinued a few years ago and is no longer available. This was replaced by Ecopy Paperworks which again has been discontinued as Ecopy has been bought by a company called Nuance. The other option out there on the market from Ecopy/Nuance is now called Ecopy PDF Pro.

There are many alternatives out there. To be honest as long as you can find a piece of software that supports TWAIN scanning then you are in business. Any document management system like Laserfiche would be compatible. There may even be some free versions out there! One that I use for testing is IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide not sure if it would be acceptable in a business environment but for free what more do you need?

It used to be possible to upgrade a non i model to an i model by purchasing an i-send kit. This then enables push scanning from the machine. There is no other way to do this even through cheating the HDD as it is a locked function and has to be unlocked by a special key code which is what's included in the i-send kit. This is then activated by canon in conjunction with the serial number of the machine and lets you use the push scanning features.

You should be able to purchase Ecopy PDF Pro through your Canon sales channels but in my opionion it is no where near as good as the old Ecopy Desktop and Paperworks used to be.

Anyway just thought I would share my thoughts after reading you post.

Hope this is of some help.

Thank you for the response. I am familiar with Irfanview, and familiar with many TWAIN acquiring graphics programs. I will test this in the environment, but I have never been able to get I-view to acquire TWAIN across the network. Only in USB connections.

Can you provide details or specifics in the Irfanview setup that would allow this ?

The slickist way to set up this bad without push scanning is to use novaPDF.

You will setup office to pull the scan and then once its at the computer just hit print! A couple clicks more and the tiff has been converted into a PDF with many custom options along the way. Then email it. Its a few more clicks to get the image emailed but I like how novapdf is installed like a print driver. Scan / hit print and pick whatever driver you want ( novapdf ) and you have a PDF.

Intrested in finding out more about what alternatives exist.

RUI whoever loaded system software didnt load the RUI. Its possible to leave it out or forget to register it.

I use Canon Network ScanGear 2.30 (B&W version, colour version won't work) with Adobe Acrobat.

As mentioned most likely either RUI isn't loaded or the wrong version is loaded.
