iR C3200 and C4080 Same CQ Issue

Hi Folks I'm getting this same issue on both a 3200 and a 4080 (same family, basically exact same print engine). I've changed 4 drums, ITB Cleaning Assy, Fuser on both. Both machines are exhibiting the same sympton of having weird white streaks about 1/8 of the way from the back (top). Navi has nothing on this so I'd figure i'd pick your brains on this. Please see attached pdf for example. Thank you for your time.

I am getting them on both scans and prints so I know that the scanner has been ruled out. Belts on both are in excellent condition but at this point I'm willing to try anything. I'll order a new belt and 1st trans rollers in the belt and see what that does. Thanks for your feedback.

Your belt is stretched and rubbing against the bottom plate.
New belt and/or mod ( Belt Cover Assembly FM3-5438-000 ) for 4080 will fix it.
This is unusual on 3200but a new belt should do it.

Teckat has posted a detailed account of his mod, which removes the large plate completely for both models.
Yoou have to anchor the varistor properly though.

Take the LARGE METAL PLATE on underside of ITB units and throw them in the GARBAGE

          ITB.JPG

U need to keep that Varistor in place> u wont have a place to screw it in on one end> so wedge it under that metal leaf spring shown in pic---

that Large plate is worthless> gathers waste toner in & outside of plate> also bottom of plate becomes bent & scrapes image> causes light areas on image

I did this also, had a belt rubbing the plate. But.....afterwards the color registration is way off....put the plate back on and still way off. It wasnt before. Maybe the belt is suddenly way stretched and slipping, but was not misaligned before this.....gonna go back with a belt......

Thanks Teckat. Had similar CQ problems on a customer's 4080i and removing the plate worked perfectly.

I attached the varistor lead to the nearby metal plate as suggested. The customer's regular service provider decided they don't do Canon anymore, so they were up a creek. Not expecting it to last forever, just long enough for me to sell em a new machine.

Thanks again. I mostly do Konica Minolta's, and have never seen the transfer belt cause an issue like this. I could tell it was happening in the 1st/2nd transfer area, but was unable to pinpoint the exact spot. You saved me some time, for sure.
