[Error Code] canon imageprograf ipf710 "perform printhead cleaning" message

Hi, I am having a problem with this canon prograf wide format , keeps saying perform printhead cleaning(originally it said to prepare to replace maintenance cartrige as well as clean the p/h) after running the cleaning procedure it made no difference, i replaced the maintenance cartridge
and i soaked the printhead (the p/h is only 2 months old as the customer claims ) so after reinstalling the p/h and new maint cart and running a cleaning cycle it still says to perform cleaning. is there something else i am missing or should be doing . ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED. AND THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Charlie, You might want to review the following post, apparently this is a common problem with the ipf wide format printers:

And here is a link to download the firmware tool :

2 months or 2 weeks doesn't mean anything.
You should check whether the printhead PF-03 has "a" or "b" status.
If it has "a" status - means it is under warranty and you can claim a new one for free.
If it has "b" status - means someone has to buy a new print-head.
You can check it even from status monitor.

It is not unusual that a "non so good" printhead will kill the maintenance cartridges very fast, because printer is trying to clean the printhead a lot.

I just want to thank blazebussiness / canon .tech / and v.p for your help and replying back..
In this case after upgrading the firmware (from ver. 1.33 to 1.34) it had no effect, however
i had already left the client location and customer ordering a new printhead, i will check
on the pf-03 for an A or B. status and i will pass it on

        Thanks again

Don't you love these things? As stated,LATEST FIRMWARE. With latest firmware if still asking to clean heads, replace it or them. Customers hold off buying a new head because it is so expensive, but meanwhile they keep doing head cleanings, which basically force ink through the nozzles. Buy a head or buy more ink. Six and one half dozen of the other. If the maintenance cartridge is full, change it. If you don't, when its plurging,cleaning,etc.. it will gum up the heads, caps, all sorts of crap. It may not look full, but when its purging or cleaning the material inside is saturated and can't absorb fast enough. Use L-print to pull the logs, update firmware, etc. You can check the date the print head was installed, whether under warranty(in status print under Head Lot Number...a means under warranty). L-Print is a great tool..service and status logs tell you everything. If customers use wrong media settings all the time the heads will fail prematurely also. Still great printers though

              Hi,

Thanks for advice, the printer is great if the maintenance cost is low and quality good, we have 3 large ploters and we see than hp has much better quality than canon we have, the maintenance and ink cost for hp is less than canon, but at the start you have to pay 20% more for printer

              No more canon im affraid

              John

Hey guys, first time poster here. I may be in the wrong thread here so feel free to redirect me. I work for a small engineering firm and we just acquired a Canon iPF710 Plotter that needs some work. In an attempt to keep costs down I have been tasked with diagnosing and repairing it if I can. Currently it will not turn on. I plug it in hit the power button, nothing happens. I have opened the back of the machine and located the power and main boards. current plan is to trace all wires to insure that nothing is obviously shorted, burned out, or loose. Any other suggestions on how to go about troubleshooting this machine? Thanks to any who might reply.
