Canon iR2880i Fuser problem - Pulsing motor

    Hi,

We have a Canon iR2880i at a customer, the problem was that the toner on the paper wouldnt be fused properly, the temperature was ok, i had a spare fixing film assy so i put that on and still had the problem...

I have found out that the cog that turns the pressure on and off is constantly turning while the machine is doing copies, so the pressure is going on and off constantly while copies are being passed through.

I found this out by forcing the copier into a paper jam (opening a panel while it was printing) and the cog would constantly be pulsing around.

All i wondered is if there is any way of knowing if this is a problem with the motor or if the board that it connects to needs changing (Thinking DC-Controller - am i right?)

    Thanks for any help!

    James.
Have you tried turning it off and on? No...Oh, it works now!

    Hi,

You may have noticed that the fuser is driven by motor M3. The same motor is used to release the fixing pressure (by turning in the reverse direction). So, i suppose there shoud be a "one-way" gear or something like this.

      M3: Fixing motor
Below are the cases in which pressure will be applied to the fixing film unit:
      - When pressure is not applied at power-on state
      - When pressure is applied at power-on state
      - When returning from sleep mode
      - After jam removal
      - When the state of pressure application is not certain after opening / closing doors with interlocks such as front cover (E.g. when a door is opened while pressure is being applied)
      pressuring operation
Fixing motor (M3) rotates in a positive direction.
The pressure plate puts down the fixing film unit by the power of the spring and presses to the pressure roller.

Below are the cases in which pressure will be released from the fixing film unit:
      - In power ON jam at power-on state
      - When paper jam has occurred
      - When the equipment enters the sleep mode (both the soft switch and the timer are applicable)
      releasing operation
Fixing motor (M3) reverses, pressure release lever 2 pushes up the pressure plate so that the fixing film unit releases from the pressure roller.
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The fixing motor (M3) will be rotated forward (the positive rotation) when pressure is applied.
The fixing motor (M3) will be rotated in the opposite direction (the negative rotation) when pressure is released.
The sensor flag in conjunction with the pressure release cover will be rotated, and the fixing automatic pressure release position sensor (PS13) will detect the movement.
This regulates the start / end timings of applying and releasing pressure.

      Error code
Error in pressure/release of fixing film unit
In case that the output of fixing automatic pressure phase sensor is not changed although rotating/reversing the fixing motor.

      u don't have an ERROR CODE ????

There is no error code tekcat.

Is the sensor PS13 in the machine or on the fuser unit? I have a spare fuser unit here and can't see a sensor on it.
