    updating IR2200

    Hello all,

I am having trouble reloading software on two iR2200's. these machine had their HDD's removed by someone else and the customer wanted to get them going again. I installed the new drives, but when trying to connect SST (with the USB to parallel or a straight Parallel connection) both machines give a time out error code of 100. I have tried from both my laptop and a desktop and get the same code. I don't know who removed the HDD's or the state of the machine prior to removal. Could the main board be bad? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

The FY9-4368-000 USB-Parallel Adapter and Service Support Tool Version 4.33Ez or later is required for Windows Vista or Windows 7.

make sure u have only one ver. of SST on Laptop or PC-

U need a Canon OEM HDD or if u try to use a HDD that the SST will not recognize> u will then need to Modify the HDD Descriptor File
This is the file which contains the descriptor information for each HDD registered for the Canon model. The naming of these files is important to understand as you will need to track these files down when you want to format non-standard HDD's.

What is the model of the hard drive and the size? It will not take just any hard drive.

Thnaks for the replies. The HDD's are Toshiba but I'm not sure of the model number. The place they were ordered from listed them as specifcally for the iR2200. I will try the irt v18.

The SST error code 100 implies there is '' communication port open error''. It is worth checking this simple but often overlooked fact:

              - Check your pc's and Laptop port settings, it should be in LPT1 and set to ECP mode, do not rely on the windows default settings, go into the computer's BIOS to verify these settings--ECP with the correct Resources DMA-1, IRQ7). Then access the laptop's/pc's DEVICE MANAGER to verify that that the settings (ECP Mode) matches with that in the BIOS to avoid Resource conflicts.

-Do not forget to check the bus / data cable which connects the hdd to the main controller board. Only last week I had exactly a similar problem in an iR5000i, only to discover that my drive cable was bad and my new laptop had resource conflicts.

              Good luck!

If you are using the Nethawk USB to parallel cable, make sure the driver is also reflected as "Nethawk" not "USB printing" This info can be seen when click on "Device Manager" of the laptop or computer.

Do have the practice of ensuring both copier AND computer to be powered OFF when plugging on parallel cable, it tends to fry something when there is a electrical surge.

And of course the parallel cable MUST be IEEE 1284 compliant- BICENTRONICS. The thicker the cable the better.

Thanks all for you posts, it was a lot of help. I got them both running. I ended up using an old laptop with an older version of SST and the new HDD file. Thanks again.
