    Can an ir5070 support a 30gb hard drive ??

I am helping out a friend who bought a used ir5070 off an auction. The machine came without a hard drive. A 30gb drive was installed and I'm trying to initialize it but I get this error from the SST:

Error response:Process has ended in error.
    <<< FileName >>>
    HDDFormatALL:C:\ServTool\iRXXXX\HDFormat\XXxxv0012 \iRXXXX-XXxx0012-HDFormat.ift

    Module : SendFile() - 5

Is the hard drive too large for the machine ?? Do I need to replace it with a 20gb ??

u have to first FORMAT the HD using the Canon SST PROGRAM/
5070 Firmware needs to be loaded in SST>then use the Assist Mode to Format HDD & load rest of Firmware

it's not the size / that is the issue/

    imageRUNNER 6570/5570/5070

    Canon HDD=WM2-5216-000/ OEM PART
    HTS541020G9AT00/ 20GB

the HD must be recognized by SST/
+++ u can not decrypt the .itf file on this model / the .itf file in this model is not visible (encrypted)

    two choices_
    1- do a search>buy a HDD on line=HTS541020G9AT00/ 20GB
2- buy a OEM Canon one

on some models the .itf file can be decrypted if visable in folder> see attachment

I can see the *.ift but it is defintely encrypted. I will buy the hard drive and reload with the SST and firmware I have. Just to confirm, the correct hard drive for the SST and firmware I have is a Hitachi TravelStar, 20GB, model HTS541020G9AT00... correct ??

Thanks for all the help teckat.. next time you're in town, we'll have a round on me !!

Another solution is to clone the hard drive using a clone software, but u have to borrow a hard drive for the source.
A 30 GB hard drive can be used for iR5070 with cloning.
20 GB IDE hard drives are difficult to find nowadays.

Yap! Can even use a new 160GB HDD with a little bit modify.

The cloning was a great suggestion but I have no access to a working machine to clone. I found the Hitachi hard drive on ebay and ordered it (same make and model teckat mentioned). I already have the SST and firmware so I hope I can finally get this machine up and running.

The hard drive came in but I still have problems. When I installed the hard drive and turned on the copier, the machine would not turn on. If I remove the hard drive, the copier powers on normally. I tested the hard drive and it reads/writes/formats fine with no bad sectors; it seems to be in working condition. Any suggestions ??

                makes no sense-
u mean the control panel LCD powers up to normal without a HDD & no error code ??

or u mean printer power ? No control panel backlight or green light. ???

                put in the HD>

hold down 2 & 8 while powering on the device to enter download mode
start up SST> go to assist mode to format HD ???>
then follow prompts to load firmware-

Check the hard Drive connector, insert it carefully aligning the pins, it is easily bent!

Connector and pins are good. I'm going to work on this machine again today afternoon and double-check.

I am back with my patient, the ir5070. I installed the hard drive, Hitachi Travelstar HTS541020G9AT00 and flicked the power switch on. The machine starts up and I see the "green" power light come on but the LCD remains off. Also, I can hear the machine sort of "slow-down" and remain quiet. In comparison, if I use a Toshiba MK3021GAS, 30GB hard drive, the machine powers up, the LCD comes on, and I can press the 2-8 combination and connect to the printer via de SST. The problem there is that the SST will not recognize the Toshiba.

Yes, the drive is a refurb... its hard to find this kind of drive new. I am sending out for a replacement just to make sure the problem is not the drive.

                            Teckat, it's a iR5070 (5570/6570) not a 5050/5065/5075, hdd size is 20GB.
