x68 Windows 7 driver required for CLC2620/PS-NX3000 PS

Oops, i meant 64-bit (not sure how to edit the title)

First of all, this is my first post here so apologies if I break some protocol.

    We have a CLC2620 printer/copier with a PS-NX3000 print server.

It works fine with our one 32 bit machine, presumably because that machine was able to locate the relevant drivers on the original support CD.

However, the printer will not work on our newer 64 bit machines, presumably (again) because the relevant driver cannot be located.

I've tried looking within Canon's website but so far no success.

Canon have said they'll get back to me in a few days but that seems a bit silly for what should be such a simple request.

Any help tracking down the correct driver greatly appreciated.

Thanks, sounds like the driver idea is a non-starter.

Nevertheless, given that our network's one 32-bit PC can print just fine it seems like there should be a (fairly) straightforward solution, using CUPS/SMB or somesuch via this machine.

Using Dropbox (see Print Files From Anywhere via Any Device With Dropbox - How-To Geek ) for instance, we can print docs from any device (including handhelds) as long as the CLC2620 is set as the default printer on the 32-bit PC, and the docs match the printer's default settings.

I tried dropping a postscript file onto the Dropbox PrintQueue folder, but it didn't seem to know what to do with that.

Maybe I need to stick a Linux distro on some old machine and configure that as a surrogate print server !?!?

I had the same problem with IRC3200 with C1 fiery, no Win 7 64 bit driver. I used the driver for the IRC4080 with H1 fiery for Win 7 64 bit. It worked fine with no problems.

          Hi,

I recommend irtek's suggested solution. As Teckat had said, you would go purple-faced but no fore-coming solution would still come from official channel.

If memory serve me good NX3000 is WinXPe-based, yu could try using iRC5180 with GX100. But don't expect 100% matching of your printouts from 64bit PC

            irtek & KL568,

First of all, thanks for taking the time to help with this...

Please correct me if I've misunderstood, but you're both suggesting I invest in new hardware, right - albeit just $150 or so for a 'new(er)' print server?

While $150 is affordable, and well worth it if it's going to leave me with a reliable solution, I'm still not convinced that it's necessary, and it seems a bit much to pay for a solution that doesn't work!

My workaround using Dropbox is OK. Not great. But OK. I even think I've figured out how to configure different print settings for each dropbox folder, using stored .reg configurations, although I haven't really put this idea into practice - but it does at least have the advantage of being free!

Again, please let me know if you think I've misunderstood something.

            Thanks again.

Hi,There is a definite misunderstanding here. My suggestion is download the x64 printer driver of GX100 to use. There is no way a Printer Server can cost $150? Even if there existing such server , it will not be able to link to your existing copier CLC2620. What irtek & I, is provide you a workaround rather waiting for a solution from official channel, and you could be in for a looooong wait...

                OK, thanks for the clarification.

If I go to the sharing settings inside the NX3000 I can see a button that says something like 'Additional Drivers...'. Clicking on that takes me to a window with two checkboxes, the x86 one (which is ticked) and another that says 'ia64'. My understanding is that the AMD64 architecture of the suggested driver, and the ia64 architecture of the NX3000 are simply incompatible. Is that not right?

I know I could just 'suck it and see' but last time I did that a whole bunch of stuff went wrong that required a complete reinstall. :-(

                  Go to this link.

                  Canon U.S.A. : Support & Drivers : ColorPASS-GX200

Select your operating system, select Drivers and then download the 6th driver down which is the PS driver.

Set the GX200 driver up and use it to print to the NX3000.

Thanks, but I just get the usual message that "Windows cannot locate a suitable printer driver..."

Before you reach the steps to select printer driver, is there something like "Auto query"? Try uncheck that and see. After getting it setup, if possible also uncheck "SNMP"

Install from the x64 PC, NOT shared out from a x86 PC. If you really MUST shared out from x86 PC, the you will need to install the GX100 or GX200 driver instead of nX3000

I think you must be referring to the option where you can "Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname".

I have to admit, it's not something I've really explored, so here goes... (and for those of a nervous disposition, I should say in advance that this little adventure doesn't end well)

I select that option and hit "Next"

                        - "Device type:" TCP/IP Device
                        - "Hostname or IP address:" I type in the PSNX3000's name on the network
                        - "Port name:" Filled in automatically
                        - Untick "Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use"

The next window requires "Additional port information". Under "Device Type", it gives me two options "Standard" and "Custom".

If I select "Custom" and click "Settings" alongside I get a window offering me a choice between "Raw" and "LPR". "Raw" is selected by default, "LPR Settings" is greyed out and "SNMP Status Enabled" is unticked. OK. Next.

The next window prompts me to install the printer driver, so...

                        - "Have Disk..."
                        - Browse to "Win_2K_XP_VISTA"
                        - Select "oemsetup.inf"
                        - "OK"
                        - Choice of two 'Printers' provided, "Canon ColorPASS-GX200 PS Ver1.0" and "Canon PS-GX200 PS Ver1.0". I'll try the first one first...
                        - Final step gives me some options on Printer Sharing. I'll accept the defaults.

Window tells me I've successfully added the printer. I'll try printing a test page...

..and nothing happens. Repeat with the "Canon PS-GX200 PS Ver1.0"... and still nothing.

                        :-(

At the above step, instead of selecting RAW use LPR. LPR settings will not grey out, ensure queue name as "print" all lower case.

A word of caution since you are going into "uncharted waters". Before you start printing anything, best to pull out all paper drawers, to prevent it churning out rubbish prints.

                            Thanks for persisting with this...

I've followed those steps, trying both versions of GX200 both with and without LPR Byte Count and SNMP enabled.

In each case, the status field in my PC's printer window for that device shows "spooling" for about a minute followed either by "printing" and then "printing error", or just "printer busy or error".

Guess it end of the road for NX3000, in terms of x64 PC to print.
