    iR C4080 e-copy/ sharescan

I really don't know anything about sharescan or e-copy.

They have an iR C4080 in this office where the sharescan stopped working just yesterday,
when you select the sharescan option from the display console on the machine,
in the top left corner it says:

    "connect error"

and in the center of the screen it says

"Do not know about host a
    Try again later."

any ideas on where to begin with this? i've already checked all of network settings on the machine, and everything else is operating just fine.

does anybody have any experience with e-copy?

    thanks heaps!

"Do not know about host a
    Try again later."

This is referring to the PC that is running the eCopy software. Apparently, that PC has changed is some way. (A change in IP address will cause this as well, as eCopy uses the IP address and not the host name of the PC.)

What needs to be there is the IP address of that PC. Frequently, when a copier stops "talking" to that PC, someone will put in a user name, PC name, etc..., as the prompt asks for the machine to be added to a "ShareScan Manager", which can be deceiving.

Keep in mind that eCopy ShareScan may be running on a workstation, not necessarily on a server, so it could be anywhere.

Just for laughs, does the iR4080 have a Fiery on it? If so, ShareScan will still definitely work, but Port 9030 must be open on the Fiery for it to passthrough to the copier.

I've seen this happen more than once or twice where the port seems to get myteriously shut down.

BTW... You can't open the port through the Fiery web interface; it must be done through the control panel. Been there... yuk.

It's an external print controller box that mounts to the back of the machine. It offers superior printing capabilities over the internal controller that's also available. It attaches with a SCSI like cable and a short (3 foot or so) crossover Ethernet cable. The customer's network attaches to it.
