I'm having problems installing a c5800 on my office network. We do not have a manual and it is a used machine. I have gone into the settings and assigned the machine an ip address, but I cannot get the network to recognize the copier. The router that it is connected to does not show the copier in the DHCP active IP Table. I have also gone into the service menu and tried to ping another one of the computers on the network and get no response. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The boot Rom is Version "c". I know that without the print kit I wont be able to print with the machine, but i should be able to scan from it right? I downloaded the Scangear tool and it cannot detect the copier.Comment

Make sure you restart the machine after you edit the IP address. it takes a few minutes to come up on the network so i usually run a ping at it until it comes up..
ie: ping 192.168.1.100 -t
If you can't get it to ping, try hooking a laptop up to it via a crossover and try the same thing. Of course, make sure your laptop is on the same subnet (If copier has address in above example, make sure PC has IP of 192.167.1.xxx). Make sure it's a crossover cable.
if you can't get it to ping then.... you might have a bad NIC in the machine. Not sure with that machine but some are just add on NIC's..some, like the 3570 are onboard NIC's which require a replacement of the entire mobo.. only had to do this once...
Check Ethernet Port settings to make sure it's set to automatic.

Ok, mabye I am an idiot after all. After further inspection the copier has a X3e-03 printer controller attached to the rear. The controller was what I had the nic cable attached to, but I could not see the label with the serial # and name on it, b/c it was under the controller box. Is there any way to test the controller?
Update: After removing the controller and plugging the nic directly into the copier the network can see the copier, and I am able to scan from it. Is there any way to reset or test the printer controller?Last edited by Guest; 03-07-2008, 06:50 PM.Comment

Only way to test I think is to plug it into the machine. When you put it on, you'll need to go into service mode to change the interface to 3 (default is 0 w/ no controller). Then you'll have a "Print" button on the screen and you can hit that and it will go into the print controller menu...there you can get into setup..
