The CCD unit moves backward, but does not move to the home position.

No the CCD is stay still in the same place no moving.

As the same problem is on my 8450 ( near similar model ): I confirm motor must be changed. This motor model is a mitsumi m35sp-13nk, canon ref FK2-5287.
I don't know if irc 1021i have the same motor in his scanner, but it may be interesting, cause I 'm afraid to not obtain any shop to sell this motor.
Does anyone know any shop where can i obtain this motor or similar ?

you can find the full platen not only the motor since canon dose not sell the motor only.

Hi, you got to contact the canon service center to get the platen cover, if they don't have it so you can buy it online or send the machine model. Send me your full details on the pm section. Waleed
