Currently experiencing this same problem error #751
symptoms is the as the thread starter:
all functions can work, but after a few minutes ( 10mins mostly )
the scan to function will fail (error #751) smb browse will not be able to find
the network, but ping command on the system settings> network settings>TCP/ip
can communicate with other host. clients can ping the copier, print documents, pull scan,
access RUI but only the "scan to file" wouldn't.
I tried the 2 solutions above which is:
turn of wins
turn of SNMP
still got the same problem...
I would try a network trace using Wireshark and a hub. it has resolved many SMB scanning issues for us, Wireshark is free software and you must use a network hub, not a switch. Hubs are still available for little money. Good luck!
Does it go into sleep mode after 10 min?
This was in another thread but set the energy consumption from low to high. It might be dropping when it goes into sleep mode. Additional Functions-> Common Settings-> Page Down-> Energy Consumption Used in Sleep Mode-> set to High.
Has it done this since day 1 or did it just start?
@DFM914:Thanks for the tip, I am now reading about wireshark and would be checking out if I could purchase a hub online, anyways? whats the difference when using a hub and a switch. anymore suggestion based on your experience about this case?
@D_L_P: nope, it doesn't go to sleep mode. it is set to 4hrs. yes, the problem started from day 1. however, I am suspecting that it is a network problem but i do not have strong evidence. you see, I setup another network using a different router/switch and the problem didn't arise. but once I put the copier to the client's network(router/switch) the same problem would appear within the 10 minutes time frame.
sgcopiertech: You must use a hub, i purchased 2 of them from ebay for under $10 ea. It has to be a hub as a switch directs IP traffic differently and will not give accurate results. If you do a search for Dynex 4 port hub,you will find many. This Dynex Hub can be purchased new at Best Buy for about $20 if you don't trust used from ebay. In fact I just did a network trace after installing a Xerox 5150 that will not scan to email and after reading the trace, I found it to be an authentication error. It is a very helpful tool, especially for free. Good luck.
It probably is an issue with their network. It sounds like the master browser isn't setup to broadcast. A workstation simply requests the info if it isn't broadcast, but the copier system isn't very robust and this would cause a failure.
Try and find out if their master browser (MB) is setup to broadcast or not.
Can you input the path as an IPaddress\share on the copier end?
Another option is edit the LMhost file on the workstation. Add an entry for the copiers IP address and Host name so the workstation knows how to find it.

Just to let you know we resolved our error. The location of the files on the server did not have a wins entry on the server. There for the printer kept loosing network connectivity. wins was then turned back at the printer level..
I just read back through the posts and saw this. This sounds very similar to your issue. Can you add a WINS entry for the path on the server?
More on the LMHost file. It is in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc folder. At the end of the file add the copier's IP address and its host name.
example: 192.168.0.15 canon01234
Just another thing to try.

a quick browse on wiki shows this-
Master Browser is responsible for the browse list within its respective subnet and portion of the domain on its subnet.
does master browser involves domain network only? because the clients network is only a workgroup.
maybe this info can help trim down the problem

Yes, I tried using IPaddress\sharedfolder but to no avail.
how about the LMhost file? on which workstation should I edit this one or should I edit all the workstation?
the network doesn't really have a server so I do not know if this would also be applicable
