    W8400 - Printer keeps on dumping ink to maintenance cartridge

    Hi


    I am trying to replace the print head on my W8400. The maintenance cartridge needed replacing, which I replaced. After this, the machine displayed a message stating "filling inks". This message was displayed for 30 minutes.


    After this a message appeared stating that the ink cartridge is nearly full.


    I tried to then go the process of replacing the print head. However, when I try to replace the head, the cartridge does not go to the centre of the machine. Instead, the empty ink cartridge message appears.


    I have checked the service menu and it says that maintenance cartridge is at 1040 ml. Normally it needs to be at 1200ml before it needs to be replaced.


    I'm reluctant to get a new maintenance cartridge, as I don't want the printer to fill it up with more ink.


    I would be grateful if any one could explain why the printer fills in the cartridge in this way and what the solution is.

      Why you trying to replace the print head if you have masage " maintenance cartridge needed replacing"

          I replaced the maintenance cartridge first. Then the printer did the dump and filled the maintenance cartridge with ink.
          I don't want to put another MC in, just in cases it fills that with ink as well.

          The print head came with a disc that had 2.15 firmware. When I tried to upgrade it, the printer said that it already had this version on it.

              The reason that Z is asking about the firmware is that : the latest firmware solved the issue of "pouring ink" on this series.

              Usually 8400 behaves like that if you kept it off for some while - so it needs to "re freshen itself" with ink.

              If you want to avoid this - you can try to replace printhead in service mode (if you know what you are doing).
              I would not advise this if you are "user only".

                  Is there any way to reset the maintenance cartridge.
                  I don't mind buying a new one, but I don't want the printer to dump more ink into the new cartridge.
                  If I can empty the existing cartridge, I can let it do the dumping in that one and then buy the new cartridge.

                          Hi, did you guys or anyone ever solve this.. I have the same problem, just dumps ink for ages (saying: ink filling), and says the maintenance cartridge is full which doesn't let it proceed to print (even test print)..

                          Please advise.

                              I work at a print shop, thats just opened up. We've got an IPF 8400. We've just had the SAME problem with it dumping ink into the maintenance cartridge after changing the "old" one.

                                  I should note that the firmware update tool tells me my firmware is updated. It is version 1.18, is this right?
