    irC1028i scanning problem

I have a customer who has e-mailed me with a strange problem on her irc1028i. He says:-"When scanning documents in the document feeder, it first scans the glass even though there isnt anything on the glass and once it has scanned the glass it then takes the documents from the feeder. Also when scanning multiple pages on the glass (individual pages) there is an option to scan in a book type, I always use this option when I have random pages, but sometimes before I can press (go) for the next sheet it automatically scans the glass, which results in having to start all over again." I'm sorry to say i don't know much about these machines. Has anybody had anything similar, or has any ideas. The customer is over 2 hours away and i would like to be armed with some ideas before going in!thanks in advance.
