    Canon PC740 error code 220

Our trusty PC740 has developed a problem in which it stops feeding in the paper and produces the error code E220 (shown in two parts "E2" and "20").

Could somebody with the service manual please check what the error code means?

I couldn't find anything on the visible mechanics that would make it do this, so I'm at loss what to try next.

    Thanks in advance!

E220 means that the scan lamp is faulty, either it's blown or to dim. Does the lamp come on?

I went back to the machine only to discover that somebody had already used it again successfully! So the lamp definitely does turn on right now at least - looks healthy bright, too.

Then again, when the problem occured, the paper stopped right about at the time the lamp is turned on, so I believe the diagnosis is probably correct.

By the way, in your experience, can a lamp itself work intermittently or should I rather be searching for flaky connector / contacts or something?

Yea connectors can be a problem, but the composite power supply could be going out, if so you might as well go shopping for a new machine.

Right - in a machine this small the supply was probably never meant to be replaced or repaired.

Thank you for your help anyway!
