    [Misc] Cleaning unit IR C3380

I have an IRC 3380 that the spring in the transfer cleaning unit detached and curls up inside. Replaced cleaning unit and replaced one did the same thing. Has anyone seen this before?I did clean out the tube that feeds the waste toner to the waste toner bottle because it looked liked it was clogged. Have to order another cleaning unit. Any response would be appreciated.

I would replace the ITB aasy and cleaner assy as a pair. I sure that the cleaner assy gets its drive from the ITB.
Oh...... I can't copy at the moment then ? !!!!!!

        M1: Drum/ITB motor
is the drive force for DRUMS & ITB

The machine collects waste toner discharged from the 2 types of cleaning units (ITB cleaning unit, drum
cleaning units of individual colors) for collection in the waste toner case.
When the power is turned on or for each print job, the DC controller drives the waste toner transport motor
(M12) to rotate the feedscrew inside the waste toner pipe, thereby moving the waste toner.
The waste toner pipe is connected to the discharge outlet of the cleaning unit. When M12 goes on, the waste toner collecting at the discharge outlets is moved through the waste toner pipe for collection in the waste toner case.

          Hello Tekcat,

I have a canon IR 2550 and it is printing black vertical lines all over the pages. The drums seems OK and I suspect the Transfer cleaner unit. Do you think if I clean the blade, the problem will be sorted. Another question is where is this transfer cleaner unit. Is it a part of the transfer belt assembly or a separate part....

          Thanks

Sorry for putting up question/query without a proper way. Yes, I am tech but this is the first time I would be doing a color copier. I got it cheap from Kijji. I want to service it and use it for my store to print jobs. I could see that the drum is OK but never realized that the cleaning unit was part of the Transfer belt.
However, I have also noticed that there are lots of vertical lines on the transfer belt. I tried to clean it with soft tissue paper but they wont go away. If I change the cleaner unit will those lines on the transfer belt still print lines on paper....
Anyway tons of thanks for sending me the guidlines... otherwise I would have lifted the transfer belt in a wrong way....

first is to get a Manual for this series

did u actually lift out the drums to inspect ??/ way to test belt & blade > is place a sheet of paper with two light drawn random circles on it >place on glass > now make about 20 copies/ see if lines appear> also test with blank paper for testing------
                test.JPG

best to replace the ITB cleaning unit & ITB ASSEMBLY together ( the ITB Belt is part of the assembly/u can not just replace the belt )

Yes Kantech, I got hold of the canon IR2550 copier today and opened it as per your instruction. Shocked to see the condition of all the Drums; all four drums are major worn-outs/scratched. Took out the transfer belt unit and cleaned the cleaner blade still no improvement. I could also see fine lines on the transfer belt unit as well, and they won't go away even after cleaning...

Replacing all the drum units is out of question as they cost around $300 each. If I replace only the black drum unit, will the b&w printout be OK or will it still print some of those black lines because of the scratches from the colour drums. Because when I print color (with a blank page) it still prints the same black lines.
Or can I just buy all the OPC drums & developer and replace them manually - will it be worth it?Image (7).jpgImage (5).jpg

                  Thanks again for your advice.

                      hi kantech,

thanks for your advice, I bought a new black toner unit and now I dont get any black lines. That means the lines or worn out color drum units or the lines on imaging unit (ITB) does not impedes the quality of black only printout. I owe you, please send me your email ID?
