Good day! Im receiving an error that states toner not set, insert toner. I recently installed a new cartridge, not oem but compatible, and it worked fine for a couple of days but today it started making all black copies then i got the error message. I did a search and didn't find any good solutions. Saw one that said turn vr401... Trying to see if it is a sensor that maybe needs cleaning but havent been able to locate. Its not allowing me to do anything to bypass or execute cleaning commands. Any help will be appreciated! Im a teacher trying to make copies for the kids.

Re: Canon imageclass mf6550 toner not set error
Try an OEM cartridge.
If it works, problem solved.
If you get the same message clean the contacts where cartridge plugs in.
Not all compatibles work because they refill empty OEM without checking if there was a physical problem.
OEM is fresh out of the factory with quality control. Why do they call it common sense?
If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?Comment

Re: Canon imageclass mf6550 toner not set error
Alright, got the machine to notice that the cartridge is set. Now im back to getting the all black copies with everything that prints or copies. No text or hand print showing up from glass. Light looks a little dim while copying. Is there a laser shutter somewhere maybe that may be shut?? Or something i can clean??Comment

Re: Canon imageclass mf6550 toner not set error
The drum on these models is part of the toner cartridge. They are what is called an all-in-one cartridge. If it is like the other Canon AIOs it is a greenish metal roller on the end of the cartridge that goes into the machine first. The charging system is also included in these units and is probably what was bad in your first cartridge.TotoroComment

I have serviced many of these in the field with this issue, and 80% resolved with a OEM cartridge.Comment

Re: Canon imageclass mf6550 toner not set error
Thx! I am familiar with the basic guide and general procedures, but it doesn't explain technical info like where the laser shutter is and how to see if it is closed. I was also familiar with how to change the toner. More detailed troubleshooting advice was what I was seeking.Comment
