How to: Fix "Insert Waste Toner" - iRC2380/2880/3380 etc.

If you arrive to a machine that has the "Insert Waste Toner" message displayed, yet the waste toner container is either new or nowhere near full, then this will more than likely sort out that issue.

Firstly you need to open the front door and take off the cover that is on the right.

    Then undo these three screws:

And the one everyone always seems to forget:

Next you need to remove the cover that the screws were holding on, it simply pulls away.

And finally, the light interrupting sensor you're looking to clean is here, chances are toner is blocking it causing the machine to think there is no waste toner container.

    Hope this helps,

    JamesU.

Or without even un-doing a single screw a good blow in the right place using a drinking straw does the trick!

I guess that would work too!

But to stop the problem coming back again so soon wouldn't taking the cover off be the better option? As i've had quite a lot of toner resting on the inside of it

              E990
When the process unit black locking lever is locked or released, it in turn opens/closes a waste toner shutter mechanism, if this does not occur properly an E990 error code may occur.

Check the Cam Lead mechanism (on inside process frame) for any broken gears or a broken cam lead itself, item #24 FC6-9403-000. (See attached image for parts location).

              cam.JPG

              OR--E990
When the locking Handle for the Process Assembly is turned to the locked position it re-positions a rack that opens the Waste Toner Shutters. When the rack is in the correct position there is a cutout in the rack that unblocks PS12, if the sensor remains blocked an E990 0000 will be generated.

Remove the Hopper Drive Assembly (p10-23 to p10-25 in the Rev.0 Service Manual; p10-21 to p10-23 in the Rev.1 Service Manual) and the Hopper Assembly ( 7-66 in the Rev.0 Service Manual; p7-48 in the Rev.1 Service Manual). With those items removed you will see a white nylon gear plate with 2 locking screws. Loosen the locking screws and position the gear plate so that when the handle is in the locked position, the cutout in the rack unblocks PS 12. (See photo below)

Can this be pinned/stickied by any chance?

I use a lot of forums, i know this - thats why i asked

Also, posted in the suggestions section about getting a sub-forum put in place for threads like this, hopefully that'll happen

Would be great. Bought the copier used and i am getting really pissed cause nothing seems to work

Would appreciate any help so much!

I done full removal of hopper drive assembly just once and never again! For me the problem with e990 alway was drum mailfunction, witch caused the mechanism (nylon gear plate and gear) mis aligment so that the ps12 was not aligned with the whole or dirty sensor ps 12 with toner!

First time it was 2h job! Now is 5 min job and one screw! -> just remove the black handle stick (number 29 on picture above). When you remove it just pust the shaft little in so the gear is unhooked! Then play with repositioning of the gear. It always worked for me with e990! The only other option is that on ps12 is loads of toner or that the sensor is dirty. But overall it can be cleand with airblower. e990 can be solved withoud time costly hopper assemly removal!

                            Sorry for my bad english

                            Best regards, Peter SLO

If you want to deal with the e990 after sure go for it. Not recommended at all. Ps11 is a lot easier to clean physically than the e990 sensor in behind the cyan toner feed assembly, easy to take off quite a pita to get back in place properly.
